Ourchair's Awesome Anime Thread

Has anyone seen Martian Successor Nadesco? I have a DVD of it with the first, like, 8 or 12 episodes or something. I only watched the first half of them and that was a couple years ago, but it seemed pretty good.

What was it about?

A spaceship and its crew. The captain is some rich chick, like the President's daughter or something. There's fighting robots on the ship and their best pilot is the cook, who has some relationship with the Captain.

I'm not really sure what the main storyline is.

Ok don't like Naruto BUT i am willing to give it a try.

Are the uk "Naruto Unleashed" by Manga dvd's good? Or is the American dvd's better?

I've really gotten back into Macross hardcore lately (and I swear if anybody mentions Robotech, I'll smite them). It's just one of those classic things, you know? Still, the quality of the animation can be annoying. I'd really love to see it redone in some way, with fresh animation and graphics (pipe dream). Anyways, anyone who hasn't seen this before should at least check it out, along with the movie Do You Remember Love?. Anyone who remembers it from being a youngin', join me in the nostalgia.

Robotech.

Well i just finished the FMA series. I have to say i think this is possibly the best series i have ever seen. i felt so much for the characters and i was even kinda choked up when
lust died
. I was hoping to see FMA everywhere in Tokyo but the merchandise for this show is non existent now. The Japanese just move on to the next big thing i guess unless ur show is Neon Genesis which is still being milked over there.
i guess the only thing left for me is Conqueror Of Shamballa?

I was in Hong Kong in late April, and while FMA merchandise (both seemingly legit and pirated/bootleg) was not exactly common, it was definitely available, esepcially from specialized hobby stores. Stuff like pendants with the caduceous logo, or temporary tattoos of the symbols from the transmutation circle (not the right term, but I think you know what I'm referring to).

But yeah, trends come and go -- right now, as far as merchandising goes, things seem to be all about Death Note (both the anime and live action versions) -- posters, stickers, replica notebooks, plushie versions of the demon creature thing, even! At least, that's the impression I got while I was in Hong Kong.

Oh, and NANA/Black Stones goodies too, since the DVD of NANA 2 was about to be released. Including a replica of the heartbreak locket pendant that the guitarist wears. I thought that was a neat tie-in.

Compound is right. It's all about Death Note now, and FMA is out.

In Singapore, my girlfriend was looking to get me a new FMA necklace, but the shopkeeper was baffled, saying, "Why would you want to get something that's so last year? FMA? That's so old!"

Tie-in jewelry merchandise is fairly common regarding anime/manga properties. I can't recall a single anime/manga that took off without a jewelry and other shiny baublish merchandise.

One thing you have to credit to the Japanese for is that they know how to diversify their merchandise like crazy, but then again the market for that is larger than it is in the U.S.

Only two guys have the beatles haircuts, and that's used as a visual joke you'll get it if you read the manga.
Kisame's sword is bandaged up most of the time because that's how he rolls, but he has taken the bandages off before...

Naruto has beatles references?

ooh also i picked up the soundtracks for FMA while i was in akihabara. Every time a new opening and ending came into FMA i would think "meh!" but after i while i learnt to love all 8 of them! i also picked up the soundtracks with audio from the atcual show because i really digged some of that ****. im so gutted now that FMA is pretty much over for me because i love this show so much.
i was actually on Japanese tv and they asked me if i watched anime, asked me what my favourite was. Of course i let em know

I have written extensively about the total awesometitude of FMA's soundtrack:

http://ultimatecentral.com/forum/showpost.php?p=286734&postcount=133

of course! most informative. but i also mean the actual soundtrack too they are really worth a listen and i normally dont like listening to that kinda **** but this really rocked too much.
i must say, i really like Motherland :d ive really become a sucker lately for this kind of cheesy music. at the moment im really digging Ai Otsuka`s "Kingyo Hanabi"

As much as I love FMA, I can't stand the soundtrack. Music that isn't in English (excluding the Pillows) isn't really my thing.
