Ourchair's Awesome Anime Thread

It *is* related to martial arts to an extent, but I agree that no one should pretend that it somehow makes DBZ deeper than it really is. I mean that principle pretty much describes a narrative trope definitive of shounen anime/manga, so it doesn't exactly 'distinguish' DBZ in any way to make it special or whatever.

Not to be a backseat mod, but I wish all these DBZ arguments (mine included) could be extracted into their own thread. It's kind of getting annoying now.

It is not. Martial arts is the most important part of my life. I've been studying since I was 6. It has nothing to do with martial arts besides having people mindlessly fight.

However, I'm sick of the DBZ argument too. This'll probably be my last post on the subject.

In an unrelated subject...I had planned on catching up in the Naruto anime, and typed "Naruto" into youtube. And you know what kept popping up? Videos which insisted that their was a "yaoi" pairing between Naruto and Sasuke. While I don't have a problem with real shounen-ai pairings, why do people insist on obviously straight characters being gay?

Well there was some movements in the Sasuke vs Naruto fight that seemed a little queer as I recall

Current FMA Status: episode 23

The voice actors in this show are all outstanding. I especially like the voice actor for Al as he really makes you feel for him. There hasnt been a crap episode yet!

It's because of their accidental kiss, and what Random said. As for the episodes: try searching for "Naruto episode **" or "Naruto: Shippuden episode **".

The best part of his death is when Roy's standing at his grave. Always gets to me.

In the manga,
Furor President King Bradley reveals that his hands were shaking during Hughes' funeral because he was so angry at Hughes' daughter for making so much noise.

That's how you make a character evil. Not rape, not mass-murder, just a man who wants to slap a little girl for crying at her dad's funeral.

The Furhur is so cool.

The best death ever in the history of ever.

I might need to read the mangas.

DO IT.

At the points where it parallels the anime, I think it's inferior. But then they get into the
Xing
stuff and the
father of the homunculi
and it becomes a bajillion times better. They handled
Al's freak-out after Lab 5
better, Winry is much less of a *****,
the true form of Envy
is better... I could go on and on. Oh... and all the spoilers above are very mild, but this one's kind of a doozy:
THERE'S AN ENTIRE SEQUENCE OF ED, ENVY AND A CRAZY PRINCE TRYING TO ESCAPE FROM GLUTTONY'S STOMACH. It rocks.

AND THEN ED SUMMONS THE GATE AND I'M ALL LIKE "ZOMG" AND IT'S SO ****ING COOL!!!

Everything about Full Metal Alchemist is just extremely awesome.

Full Metal Alchemist was pretty ****ing awesome until episode 50 or around there. There were about two episodes left and they revealed the mastermind behind it and my head blew up. I didn't understand what was going on and I can't even be bothered watching the remaining two episodes to figure it out.

Huh?

Was it really that confusing?

While I really liked the ending of Fullmetal Alchemist, I can't say I was totally perfectly satisfied with it, as
the parallel 'real' world
seemed a bit gimmicky, but it reaches its thematic and emotional payoff when you watch Conqueror of Shamballa.

I think if anything, the finale and Conqueror of Shamballa crystallizes the franchise' themes around a more character-oriented bent rather than plot-oriented, and that might have turned off some who were more inclined towards the political and industrial/military aspects of the series.

I can't remember the exact details so I'm not sure if I found it confusing because I didn't know what was happening or that I didn't care or some kind of combination of both. I don't really want to watch the first 49 episodes to catch up again though.

I'm sure I'll be stoned for this, but I find FMA one of the most overrated animes next to Naruto and DB/Z/GT. It really has no purpose or point, and when they finally get to a reveal it's like "*yawn* don't care anymore".

Granted, I freely admit anime, like all other television and films are completely subjective.

My personal favorites at the moment are Strawberry Panic, Last Exile, and Mai-Otome (and for god's sake...i can't tell you why).

Other classics to me are; FLCL, Noir, Gunslinger Girl, Boogiepop Phantom, Evangelion (again...don't ask me why), Big O, and Revolutionary Girl Utena
