Re: New Avengers discussion (#26+; spoilers)
I've been rereading this arc (I'm enjoying it so much - this comic is one of my top 5 favourites - the writing, the art, the story, the cast are all great) and I have no idea what the last page of #31 is going to be. Since they've recently brought up the conspiracy plotline, I'm guessing it will have something to do with that, but I don't know what. A page of Nick Fury being revealed to be behind everything from Disassembled to Civil War? I'd rather it not actually - I'm sick of events and all of these tie ins. New Avengers is now telling a good story that it doesn't have to rely on Civil Wars and House of Ms, so I'm hoping it's something completely different.
Perhaps it's Doctor Strange being under control of The Hand and being used as a Mass Weapon of Magical Destruction against SHIELD? I have no idea. That would be pretty neat though. Except Queseda would turn it into another event.
Anyway, I am really enjoying this comic, considering everything else Bendis has touched lately has sucked. Yu is now one of my favourite artists. Go New Avengers!
Oh ****, I completely forgot what the purpose of this post was going to be. I was coming in here to tell everyone that if there's a traitor, I think it will be Jessica Drew. We all know she's a double and a triple agent with SHIELD and HYDRA and whoever, but we don't know much about her current status. When Doctor Strange cast his purity spell, Jessica was looking mightily worried. And then he explained that everyone was pure and if they weren't, they'd be having a seizure. In the background you see Jessica holding her throat and stomach, leaning against a post, obviously in pain. Did the magic affect her that much? Or is she feeling a little guilty?
This means that Jessica may be working for Tony Stark, as she's a friend of Carol's, or maybe HYDRA, or maybe even Nick Fury. I like the idea of the triple-agent, so it would be fun to bring it back (especially since her own ongoing has been kept back for some mysterious reason). Maybe Doctor Strange knows she's a traitor? Maybe he doesn't? But if he does, and he's lying to the others to protect her, what is Jessica going to do? It would be an odd coincidence if Doctor Strange just happened to be stabbed in the chest by a possessed Maya. Why, I wonder if Jessica would even go as far to let the Sorcerer Supreme die, thus having the greatest last page in a Marvel comic this day?
I have no idea why I'm thinking about this so much. I know Bendis isn't. But this arc has been really good. I don't think he'll die - it doesn't have much impact after Captain America died a few months agoo, and if he does, he'll just be back again. He's the Sorcerer Supreme, I wouldn't be surprised if he has an anti-death spell.
Um, yeah. Some thoughts, I suppose.
