Lost *spoilers*

God damn that was a good episode. A lot revealed and a lot set up. I can't ****ing wait to see what happens next. Now comes the depressing part when I realize I have to wait a week for that...

Also
I liked the Alternate flashes, I was a bit worried that it would be weird but just like time travel they pulled it off, I can't wait until we get more meaningful flashes. The Jack and Locke one was great. And having Jacob appear to Hurley dead was brilliant. I like how Charlie's first line was "Am I alive?" which was written on his hand at Comic con. And the Monster ****ing unbelievable, the fight and learning the ash's purpose, the his confrontation with Richard was superb.

All around I ****ing love where this is going.

I think evil sentient Locke-impersonating smoke monster is about to become the most awesome character on the show.

I love that LOST just went from completely sci-fi to completely mythic.

And where did Desmond go? And How did Juliet know that it worked? And why did 815 Jack have a cut on his neck? And why the heck would Jacob send messages in huge wooden Ahnks? (however you spell that) That seems a bit overkill.

because people still read it who don't want to be spoilered.

I'm just being considerate.

I can't help it, I'm Canadian.

EDIT: So I just noticed that the "latest posts" sidebar on the forum main page doesn't black out spoilers.

Its a spoiler thread for a reason. Anyone coming in here who doesn't want to be spoiled shouldn't be in here anyways.

People are disagreeing with me, but I think the Sayid that rose from the dead at the end of the episode is Jacob, in the same way the smoke monster is Locke. It has been pretty firmly established that people don't actually come back from the dead in this series. All the ones who apparently rose were all the Smoke Monster using their dead form.

I think the reason Jacob didn't fight his death is that he had the back-up plan. He had it from the moment he handed Hurley that guitar case with the note within the Ankh.

Also: I bet the others killed his nemesis at some point, and that is why the Smoke Monster can't appear in the body we saw him in way back in that earliest flashback.

Why are you guys using spoilers? It's a *SPOILERS* thread!!

I know, I just do it as a courtesy, just in case someone wanders in who hadn't seen it yet, Time zones and such. Also since it's the premiere and all, I probably won't for other episodes.

It's a good theory but I disagree. Mainly because the writers answered a question that was "Has Jacob ever appeared as someone else" and the said no. The smoke monster is proven to manifest itself as different beings, it doesn't inhabit their bodies. I think Sayid's return is more of a delayed resuscitation than resurrection. His now role would be to see what effect the fountain has with the whole "loss of innocence" thing. Which is interesting, Sayid who hated the others now becomes one.

I think Jacob's plan is to win the "game" with the man in black, Hurley plays the roles as his voice. I think he died more on principal that even he can't live forever and he accepts this. He'd rather see mortal make the right choice than be deceptive than the Adversary. Also I don't like the idea of the conflict coming down to Sayid and Locke. I think Jack and Locke are a better match up for this conflict than Sayid.

Also anyone else intrigued by the "It worked" line? That tells me that the alternate timeline is just a storytelling device, that it's actually going to play a part in the future.

Jacob never died before now. He never needed to take another being's form. but one has to assume his powers match his rival's... We haven't seen the smoke monster take his original form since the flashback that established him as Jacob's rival. I think the reason Jacob has held power for so long is that his followers killed his rival and left him bodiless... This would explain why they would need the sonic fence to keep his rival away from them.

And They pretty firmly established Sayid as dead. No pulse, no response to Jack's attempts, and then a good deal of time later, one has to assume at least fifteen, twenty minutes have passed since he was declared dead, after Hurley's meeting... He just suddenly catches his breath and is alive? In a show so much about life and death, there has never been a character who has legitimately come back from the dead.

Although further thinking made me realize that the smoke monster just took the form of the dead, not their bodies themselves... I do think part of this season is going to be about resurrecting Jacob, but since Sayid was confirmed dead, I bet he is, at the very least, possessed by Jacob. Maybe that possession will lead to resurrection?

I do think that you're right in that it needs to come down to Jack vs. Locke. But for the moment, I think Sayid will be Jacob.

Also: Sayid, a man who had done such wrong in his life, needed to be baptised before he could be infused with Jacob's spirit. I think that's important.

Well I just don't see the point of Jacob taking over Sayid as long as he has Hurley to communicate through. He didn't even try to stop the man in black before so why does he need a physical body to use these "powers" he may or may not have? As to the whole baptizing thing, I feel that's just a healing fountain, the same one used to save young Ben. I'm thinking the delayed response was due to the water being Murky than anything else. But who knows anything at this point, we still know very little about Jacob. I just seems unnessecary and easier to explain as the other theory. If we see him talking to Hurley again that should settle it.

Also Anyone else Love Alpert's acting, the scene where he realizes it's the man in black and he looks terrified to his core. Nothing over the top but still just great

I remember when someone in this thread pointed out that maybe Lost was more like Stephen King's It than The Stand and I think this episode proved it. Jacob has brought this group of heroes together (Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Hurley, Sayid, Jin etc.) to defeat the ultimate enemy.

All I know is that the next time Jack encounters Locke it is going to be epic.

I love this show.

God, remember what the show was like at the beginning? It was great enough then, even before we knew it'd become this mystical, time traveling supernatural being showdown. I'm just so grateful this show exists and for what it's done for television, even though its match has yet to happen.

Though I'd like to point out that I don't think they necessarily had all this planned from the getgo. Remember when the smoke monster was all mechanical and clockwork sounding? If Flagg (the man in black, heh) can just turn into it, why would it need squeaky mechanical parts? Whenever it appears now, it still sounds like that, but I think only because they at one point thought machinery would be involved, they changed their minds, and now have to stick with it.

I'm certain they had the big picture planned from the beginning. I remember Damon Lindelof said after the pilot was approved and they were certain they were getting more episodes they sat down and said "What is this all about?" Their feelings were you can't write about a monster if you don't know what it is. The mechanical sounds still fit even though the monster is now know to be mystical in origin. Just because something is supernatural doesn't mean it can't have a physically mechanical appearance.

And the design and sound of the monster is freaking ingenious because not only did it have mechanical sounds it also had very animalistic sounds, like the howling.

DSF, that's a great theory.

I'm in the camp that the pool (which is somehow connected to Jacob as the representation of good and life) healed him but didn't work like it should have because it was murky (because Jacob is dead).

I also think that quite possibly, the whole "losing your innocence" thing will work in reverse for Sayid. I bet that he now has regained his innocence and doesn't remember anything that came before.

So Damon and Carlton were on Jimmy Kimmel last night and Kimmel actual brought the Sayid theory (its in Part 2 at 2:15) They also announce the end date in the interview

Here they are on youtube for anyone outside the US

wow, they addressed a lot of things I was wondering about.

Shannon not on the plane - partly because of her contract, but also significant and she will most likely be in the show later in the season
Jack only getting one bottle of alcohol - significant
Jack and Rose's roles being reversed - significant

and Jimmy's question about Groundhog's day was hilarious!
