Fables series discussion (spoilers)

Everyone's pretty much right E. The first volume is a self contained story to see if a tale about fairy tale characters in modern day New York would be worth writing about. It isn't awesome. Had I just picked up volume 1 and not 2 and 3 with it, I probably wouldn't be reading Fables right now. But the series just keeps getting more intense and better and better.

Like I said, I will continue to check it out. It's just not super high on the priority list.

I was the same way. There was probably a good six month between V1 and 2 for me. Trust us that by the end of V3 you'll have tog et the rest.

Anyone read the new Jack of Fables? And did you notice connections to the current regular Fables arc?

Yeah, they're synching up with these respective arcs.

I read the first two issues of Fables when they came out but had to drop the series as I was moving and poor. I always wanted to get back into it, though, so when Jack was starting and the Sons of Empire story was starting my comic shop had a $1 back issue sale, where the "newer" back issues still on the rack were only a buck. So I got the first couple Sons of Empires and the first couple Jacks. Then 1,001 Nights fo Snowfall came out like a month later. That's when I went back and bought all the old trades and I've been buying both series monthly since and am very happy.

(although I have to get the trades too because of stupid special features in Wolves and stupid mistakes in recent Jack issues)

Hey, did anyone else notice Kevin Thorn (I think that's his name, the reporter, need to completely re-read series) in the background while Charming was talking to Hansel? Wonder how that's going to play out in 20 issues?

Kevin Thorne appeared a couple times in Jack of Fables 12 as well.

Fables is the only one of my comics my girlfriend reads.

My girlfriend only really "reads" stuff with Michael Turner's art and it's always his own, independent fantasy stuff.

And Fables. I really had to convince her to read it, as she really doesn't like the visual storytelling of comics. But she really digs Fables. Which is good 'cause it gives us more to talk about. Speaking of which, I'm getting antsy between trades. Even though I just read the Sons of Empire trade (Which was HUGE), I really want to catch up. Jack, I can wait on, but not Fables.

Flycatcher is building an army out of all the people dumped down the Witching Well... including Shere Khan and Bluebeard.

Yeah, also why would Bluebeard and Shere Khan follow fly?

While I haven't read it yet, it may have something to do with getting out of the Wishing Well. Or even just getting back to the Homelands to they can live their lives again.

Flycatcher is going to let them free after they've done their job. They've got their own plan brewing, yet Flycatcher supposedly knows they're going to betray him.

And yes, Trusty John carries Excalibur.

It's so long until the next trade...

Did it seem to anyone else like Flycatcher is trying to overthrow the Empire, or to apply for a kingdom?

I think... I think... I think I just convinced an Ultimate Universe completist to pick up Fables...
