Chow Yun-Fat?

Wait, let me say that again to make sure I heard right

Chow Yun-Fat?!

Yep, that's what I thought. What's next, Tom Sizemore as Yajirobi? Wait, that might actually be cool. . .

I find it rather hilarious that Chow Yun Fat is going to be Master Roshi.

Chow Yun-Fat as Roshi? WTF? I can't imagine Fat playing anything other than a serious Chinese badass. But a perverted turtle hermit who's supposed to be part of the comic relief of the series? No.

Ah but since this one is dragonball , Roshi while comical he was slightly more serious in the training of goku and things like ripping off his top and been the big muscled version who first uses the Kamehameha.

Plus movie wise if he was as silly as manga/anime it wouldn't really work.

I think if they had an American actor playing Roshi, he might be able to pull off the comedic aspects of the character. I doubt we'll be seeing Lunch/Launch now (because she was basically created to reflect Roshi's pervertedness).

I can picture it.

I love the idea of Chow Yun-Fat playing a perverted turtle hermit. It's such a break in his screen image, that it's an inspired choice.

But weren't you and other people complaining every time a non-asian was cast? e.g
Justin Chatwin, the guy playing Goku, was in David Goyer's The Invisible. He actually looks a lot like how I would imagine Goku to look, only he's missing one key feature. HE'S NOT ****ING ASIAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Dragonball Z live action !

Langsta, you really do have some problems with race and casting, don't you? :?

IMHO, Asian-Americans are a lot more defensive and protective about Asian identity and screen portrayals than Asian Non-Americans.

Re: Dragonball Z live action !

You know, I want to make it clear I've got no problem with Chow Yun-Fat being in the film, or his role. What it does for me is about what it does for ourchair, make me actually want to see it somewhat.

Besides, I can see Fat doing the role. He's capable of doing humor and still be a bad-***. Remember the baby scene in Hard Boiled?

Re: Dragonball Z live action !

Nice. I may actually tolerate this movie. He was the same guy in A Better Tomorrow right? I used to watch those movies all the time along with Jackie Chan. Anything with Jackie Chan. In Junior HIgh, I couldn't go a day without watching Rush Hour on my illegal cable channels. 8)

Emmy Rossum (Poseidon, The Phantom of the Opera, The Day After Tomorrow) has posted a message about her filming and preparations for the Dragonball movie on her official MySpace page:

Sorry I've been rather quiet for a bit, I've been working on a very exciting new film that I'm shooting outside the US. I'm working with the great Chow Yun Fat and I'm very excited about the role, which is so different than any role I've ever played. I love the character and I'm excited to get to share something so fun with you. In prep for the film I've been training very hard, learning how to fight, fire a gun, weapons training and even some martial arts. It's fun to play such a different character when I am such a pacifist in real life.
