Doctor Who

I just saw eps 4 and 5 back-to-back of TORCHWOOD: MIRACLE DAY. I get why Houdey wanted to talk about it.

Wow, this is pretty good.
Danes is really interesting, and my god, what they did to Juarez. I really liked her, I can't believe what they did. So did not see it coming. That camp commander guy can't die enough.

This whole series has been really, really dark.

From Steven Moffat's twitter:

Steven Moffat said:
Sitting on s train, about to watch 1st episode of Firefly. Present from a friend who says I'll love it. I'm confident.

I predict we will see Nathan Fillion in DOCTOR WHO's seventh season, or SHERLOCK's third.

Huh? I thought they already filmed all of DOCTOR WHO's sixth season a while back. In the first trailer for the season it had clips from the latter half of the season, so I assume it was all already done...

Just like movies, Doctor Who maybe just had a re-shoot to film the cameo. Something small wouldn't take long to edit in an episode, especially if it won't air until next month anyways.

They shoot the episodes out of order too so the footage we saw might have been shot first.

First of all... SHE SHOT SEXY!!!

I loved the episode. From the surprise about Mel (anyone saw that coming? I didn't, I won't lie), to seeing the first time River meets the Doctor & the cameos by his three past friends.

Rory punching Hitler was hilarious.

"Killed the doctor. Doctor Who?" Excellence.

I loved it! I didn't see Melz coming at all, and it was terrific. I can't wait to see what happens next regarding the arc of River killing the Doctor at Lake Silencio and the Question (I still am not sure if the astronaut that kills the Doctor is River, I think River takes the fall in order to end the war, I think the entire death is just a show for the Silence so that they think they've killed the Doctor).

I figured Mel wasn't normal, just didn't think she was River.

I just didn't like the pace of the episode, there was no real villain in the story, and nothing they were fighting against. It was merely exposition on how River came to be River.

And the math isn't adding up for me. If the little girl we saw in New York in 1969 regenerated became Mels, then she would have been too old to be the age she was following Amy Pond around during her life.

Though I liked how we found out who was the teacher of River in piloting the TARDIS, it was the TARDIS itself.

I understand the need for the episode, but I simply felt the episode was lacking in something. I have to watch it again to find out what.

I thought it felt unnecessarily complicated but I enjoyed it. I hope this second half of the series picks up because aside from the two-parter with The Silence and Neil Gaiman's episode I didn't really care for the first half of the series.

There was actually three villains; Hitler, River, and the Teselecta. The bizarre thing is that too many villains is akin to no villain - it's just as unfocused.

When Mels says, "Last time, I ended up a toddler in NY", three things to consider: Firstly, we are assuming the little girl regenerated into Mels in NY, it's possible, she regenerates into someone else, then regenerates again in NY. We don't know how many lives River has before becoming River. Secondly, River makes a throwaway line that she will "age gradually backwards". This is a cute way to explain why Alex Kingston's natural aging goes against River's timeline, but it also explains the idea that Timelords can control their aging process, which means Mels intentionally aged with Amy and Rory. Thirdly, I'm not sure the Timetot regenerated in 1969. We just know she was in NY. Did it say 1969? I can't remember. Regardless, the line about River deciding how she ages explains how Mels' timeline can synch up with Amy and Rory.

The episode was lacking, ironically for an episode called LET'S KILL HITLER, breathing room. We needed the scene in the Tardis where Mels shoots the console, and we needed a bit of space to help set up River's change from psycho to lover. I think it was cut for time.

I agree. It was overly complicated but still very enjoyable. Did you not like A GOOD MAN GOES TO WAR?

It was okay but I think the long break really hurt the momentum of the show.

Hitler was never a villain, he was merely something fun to call the show.

River wasn't the villain, cause you knew she would become a good guy by the end.

Teselecta wasn't really a villain, merely a plot device for the Doctor to gain information on his future.

There was no clear villain, unless you count the antibodies, but even then, they were merely robots with a defined purpose, nothing else. I have to agree with Project, the break hurt the momentum of the show.
