Celebrity Deaths (updated weekly)

Hmm, according to the sheriff investigating, he snapped and killed his wife, kid, then himself.

If that is true, it proves that there is still such a mental health stigma. If he'd gotten help sooner, he and his family would most likely be alive.

From WWE.com.

According to lead investigator Lt. Tommy Pope, of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department, in Fayetteville, Ga., the deaths of WWE Superstar Chris Benoit, wife Nancy and son Daniel were the result of a double murder-suicide, WWE.com has learned.

Benoit failed to appear both at Saturday's live event in Beaumont, Tx., and WWE's Vengeance: Night of Champions in Houston Sunday night, after informing WWE of a family emergency. Several curious text messages sent by Benoit early Sunday morning prompted concerned friends to alert Richard Hering, VP of Government Relations for WWE, Inc. Hering, in turn, spoke with Fayette County sheriffs Monday, and requested that they respond to the Benoit residence to check on him and his family.

Authorities representing the Sheriff's Department initially had a difficult time entering Benoit's new Fayetteville home Monday afternoon, which had been guarded by two large German Shepherds roaming freely around the property. Once authorities entered the residence, they quickly located the bodies of Benoit, Nancy and Daniel. WWE was notified of the discovery at approximately 4 p.m.

At 10 p.m. Monday night, Lt. Pope held a press conference in conjunction with Scott Ballard, the district attorney for Fayette County. The press conference officially ruled authorities' findings as a double murder-suicide from within the home.

WAGA, a FOX-owned and operated television station in Atlanta, reported that investigators believe Benoit killed his wife and 7-year-old son over the weekend, then himself on Monday.

The three bodies have been received by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's crime lab, in Decatur, Ga., where autopsies will be performed Tuesday morning. Toxicology reports will not become available for at least two weeks.

WWE.com has further information relating to both the investigation and the cause of death, but the Fayette County Sheriff's Department has requested that WWE.com not release any additional details at this time.

:? What does that have to do with it?

As much as I think I've "outgrown" wrestling, I respect it and respect the fact that doing a physical sport (Because yes, a lot of the fighting isn't real, but a lot of it is. Just ask the retired wrestlers who have all kinds of health problems from being beaten up so much), as well as having to play a character on a weekly basis is probably more than the average athlete is asked to do.

Sorry. It was uncalled for. :(

Wow. If that's true, then the whole tribute show to him last night was slightly in poor taste.

While it was done tastefully---it was people speaking on what a stand-up guy Benoit was when it was actually he who killed his family. All of this allegedly, of course.

With that said...the whole situation sucks and while it's been a couple years since I followed wrestling---Benoit was one the greatest performers out there. I followed his career for almost 10 years and was almost in tears when he finally won the WWE Heavyweight title at Wrestlemania (those who followed wrestling know what I'm talking about since he'd always been a headlining-worthy competetor and had been screwed out of recognition MANY times).

I really feel for the wrestlers mostly because this is the second death in 2 years that has hit close to home.

I totally agree.

I can't imagine hurting a 7-year old. And his own kid, on top of that.

If it's true, I hope he's rotting in hell. And to tribute the guy....bogus.

See, I don't think thats how it happened, I have a feeling the wife killed the son, then attacked him when he returned home, where he killed her, then killed himself in grief

That's how I believe it to happen

but the reports have said it was proved the wife was dead longest

Also It doesn't change my opinion. The guy had a mental break down. That can not be helped. I don't condemn him for it. It was a tragedy what happened. It is always a shame when a child dies.

However like people have said he was a nice guy , he would never hurt his kid or wife. The crazy texts he sent. He had a mental break down.

I don't think the tribute show last night was in poor taste as at the time it was not said he had killed them just he was found dead. Also they were celebrating a good man and his life up till his breakdown.

I just read that they believe it may be because of steroid-related depression.

The wrestler i feel most sorry for is chavo and Rey. They were extremely close to Eddie and Benoit so both deaths like a year and half to 2 years apart would be pretty damn bad for them.

Then cancel any future reflection on his greatness.

Why?

Like i said the tribute shows are about celebrating the work he has done in wrestling. Look at his history dude. He was a fairly easy going family man. First one one of Chavo called when Eddie died. This dose undo the work he did in the ring.

The way he killed them e.g leaving a bible next to them , Something wasn't right. He must of like I said before had a mental breakdown. He would not hurt his son intentionally. Everyone keeps talking as if he did it knowing full well what he was doing like one of us getting a drink or something.

No he didn't you don't just do that one day. He wasn't a guy who was some killer like the guys you see who shoot their wives because of an argument. He was a god man who mental health took a turn for the worse and made him do things he wouldn't normally do.

It's insane but at some point you have to acknowledge the debt the sport owes him. You can't do a BUffalo Bills retrospective without mentioning how great OJ Simpson was and you can't do a WWE retrospective without mentioning how great Chris Benoit was.

That said, it's just disgusting and any further tributes to the Man (not the athlete) should be avoided at all costs.

The fact that the murders took place over the entire weekend and not just the space of a couple of hours points to either deliberation and planning, or a complete psychotic breakdown. The man left a copy of the Bible next to both of his victims. It wasn't an act of roid rage or any kind of rage.

Its sad to say it but the legend of the Canadian Crippler has been killed more effectively than any gimmick Randy Orton could have pulled, and it was killed by one man, Chris Benoit. They have pulled every scrap of merchandise from the WWE shop, stripped all the tributes from WWE.com. The only news article is the headline of updates on the main page now. His place in the Hall of Fame is gone forever.

I can't begin to express what a letdown this is. I'm sooooooo disappointed.

I never expect ANYBODY to be a paragon of virtue and morals. But I just didn't think any person could be capable of such blatant, harsh cruelty. Benoit obviously had serious mental issues that went undocumented to the public. And it's a shame that somebody so talented would do something so horrific.

At this point, I no longer give a **** how history remembers him. What really pisses me off is how much respect I've lost for him, personally. All the impressive moves, the pure athleticism... none of that can match up to these senseless violent crimes. Never mind the Hall of Fame -- Benoit's fond place in my memory is gone forever. And I'm still not completely over the shock of it all...

From a report I just read. It pretty much sums up most of Benoit's fans feelins right about now.

"You always rooted for him, because he was a good guy and he overcame the odds," said Dave Meltzer, editor of the Wrestling Observer, a weekly news letter. "It's like if you watched `Rocky,' and in the end it comes out that Rocky killed his wife and his son."
