Celebrity Deaths (updated weekly)

I completely agree, but for the record, all of compound's reasons why this is so sad involved stupid wrestling politics.

And how come no one seems to be that shocked that his entire family's dead too? I mean.... huh?:?

I was shocked his family died too. I even mentioned it. i just kept that part out of posts more as this is Celebrity deaths and there were not Celebrities.

compound's reasons btw were spot on. He explained why this is a huge loss to wrestling and wwe. Which it is.

But it's sad not just for wrestling but all the other reasons too

  • his family who were with at the time died too

you may not like wrestling and yes we know it's fake but it is still a ****ing tragedy when this happenes
Actually, this just adds to my frustration about Benoit's real-life death happening so close to the fake McMahon death storyline. Because it *did* happen under genuinely mysterious circumstances, and now the actual investigation will seem dubious for people like UltimateDJF, who are cynical about "sports entertainment", to begin with.

Obviously, the WWE didn't count on this happening. As an organization, they couldn't have known it would end up this way (unless, like Guerrero before him, Benoit may have had personal troubles that the company attempted to address, in private).

Buf if Benoit's work schedule and lifestyle, as a travelling wrester, had any connection to his family's death, then I think WWE should honestly re-evaluate its decision to run shows year round. The proposal of an "off season" is almost as old as the 'sport' itself, but how many more performers need to drop like flies, before the company decides that there may be a problem with how they run things?

Technically, his wife (Nancy Sullivan) was a celeb, but only within the pro wrestling world -- she was a manager called Woman in WCW, in the early 90s.

She had a rather memorable feud with Jacqueline/Jackie (the black valet, who eventually ended up in the WWF, in the mid 90s).

Also, there's an very interesting story about how they got together as a couple, but I don't remember the exact details. In any case, I have a feeling it will be mentioned, anyway, in the various memorial write-ups that will no doubt be published on various wrestling sites, over the next few days, (i'm partial to Pro Wrestling Torch, if anybody cares). So I'll just leave it up to them to take care of that...

From what I have heard, Benoit didn't perform at Vengence after calling in due to a 'family emergency' where his whole family was coughing up blood.

It is terrible to lose such a talented athlete, but to have his wife and child gone as well makes this that much more tragic.

Everything has been said in response to DJF's comment that I would say tbh, so I won't say any more on that matter.

Rest In Peace Chris 'Rabid Wolverine' Benoit and Family.

Have that one last match with Eddie, on the grandest stage of them all.

 What the ****?

Actually, it's all too easy to get caught up in wild speculation, when there are no verified reports yet.

So let's try and stick to the facts, for now, as much as possible.

I know that Benoit no-showed Vengeange because of a "family emergency". That much was stated on record, during the show.

But there was no formal confirmation that the emergency was medical in nature. And there are definitely no reliable reports that they were all coughing up blood. So let's wait for the initial autopsy report, before we start inadvertantly circulating rumors.

We don't get Raw live here -- it will be aired later this week. But I assume that it means the "Mr. McMahon presumed dead" storyline is officially done, then?

Most likely no. like he said it was the death of his character. It will carry on next week IMO. Like when eddie died they carried on the death of the undertaker ect.... they just wait.

I might have agreed with you, until Vince came out and said what he said. I give him a lot of props for telling everyone that his death was fake while this was real.

RIP Chris and family.

Most of the reports on other sites are just reproducing the WWE report.

Except one of them, which also mentions his wife was a wrestler.

I'd wait for something more official before you start eulogizing the guy.

The Atlanta Journal-Consitiution is continuously updating the story, because it's breaking local news.

Wrestler Benoit, Wife and Son Found Dead

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. — WWE wrestler Chris Benoit, his wife and son were found dead Monday and police said they were investigating the deaths as a homicide.

Lt. Tommy Pope of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department said the three were found at their home about 2:30 p.m., but refused to release details.

Pope said results of autopsies on Benoit, his wife Nancy, and 7-year-old son Daniel were expected Tuesday.

Benoit, 40, was a former world heavyweight champion, Intercontinental champion and held several tag-team titles over his career.

"WWE extends its sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Benoit family's relatives and loved ones in this time of tragedy," the federation said in a statement on its Web site.

Benoit was scheduled to perform at the "Vengeance" pay-per-view event Sunday night in Houston, but was replaced at the last minute because of what announcer Jim Ross called "personal reasons."

Benoit, a Canadian native, maintained a home in metro Atlanta from the time he wrestled for the defunct World Championship Wrestling.

The WWE canceled its live "Monday Night RAW" card in Corpus Christi, Texas, and USA Network aired a three-hour tribute to Benoit in place of the scheduled wrestling telecast.

There. Now there are official statements from named law enforcement officials, and it features details not mentioned on the WWE site (the anticipated date for the autopsy report). Still in disbelief?

trust me , it is real , the only reason their is very few details out is it was only announced tonight.

That's cool - all I was saying is that it seemed a little silly to believe it straightaway with no other confirmation than once from a place which is built on fakery and "storylines".

Which is not to take away from the tragedy of the whole thing. I don't follow WWE and couldn't care less about it, but what an awful thing to have happened.

Damn this one has gotten to me. I've always been a huge Benoit fan. He has done loads for wrestling but also he seemed like a pretty straight forward guy. This is the first celebrity death since Eddie Guerrero to effect me.
:( This sucks. I remember Chris Benoit from when I used to watch wrestling. Very sad, and especially the fact that his family also died.
I might've shown some hint of sadness if I didn't know that all wrestling is STAGED.
:? What does that have to do with it?

As much as I think I've "outgrown" wrestling, I respect it and respect the fact that doing a physical sport (Because yes, a lot of the fighting isn't real, but a lot of it is. Just ask the retired wrestlers who have all kinds of health problems from being beaten up so much), as well as having to play a character on a weekly basis is probably more than the average athlete is asked to do.
Now i'm even MORE upset, after seeing that again...

That doesn't make it any less tragic than when an actor dies.

Wrestlers may play character roles on TV, but they (mostly) have undeniable athletic skill and/or the ability to perform for a crowd in a way that fires them up, and holds their attention. That requires TALENT, and Benoit had plenty of it (arguably more than his peers, even).
See, compound gets it.

I would make a "28 Days Later" joke if I didn't feel that it would be distasteful.

I've heard it on the cable news channels and on a few different websites.
