Captain America Movie

Forgot he directed Jumanji! Possibly the greatest family film of all time.

Yep, Johnston's definitely got my seal of approval(I like the sound of that....). Like DSF I'm basing a lot of the this on Rocketeer and his work on the Indiana Jones films in terms of the right Captain America feel, but I also adore Jumanji, Pagemaster and heck, even Jurassic Park III, so yeah.... excited.

Didn't Johnson also direct Jurassic Park 3, or am I thinking of someone else?

So I've been thinking.....

Should Marvel Movieverse Captain America be Steve Rogers or Bucky Barnes?

The more I think about it...the more I'm convinced that, to keep in line with the comics they're currently selling, he should be Bucky. I mean yeah the Steve Rogers is the iconic character, but I think Bucky makes the better Cap (in the book and onscreen).

I'll have to explain more in-depth later but for now....your thoughts?

Not a bad idea, but I don't agree Bucky should be Cap for the movieverse. At least, not in the first Cap movie or Avengers film. It's an interesting idea for maybe a Cap sequel, but not right away.

See....I don't readily agree.

Unless Marvel plans on finally bringing back Rogers to the title print series, I think the cross-promotion and tie-ins won't be as effective.

Imagine "Joe Moviegoer" seeing Captain America on the big-screen and falls in love with the heroic actions and personal "fish out of water" trouble of Steve Rogers, then wanting to read the comics.....only to find that it's this brunette ex-Winter Soldier guy named Bucky!

They're always going to do Movie cap as Steve Rogers. I would never see them use Bucky as him.

Plus, of course they're going to bring Steve back in the comics. It's only a matter of when. And what better time of when then to tie it in during the movie's release. Besides, that's why they always put out and reprint other works with Steve as Cap.

It's like with Spider-Man. In the movie he has organic web-shooters. In the comics he didn't have them before the movie came out. But when it did, comic Spidey soon had them, too.

That sounds like a pretty bad idea, to scrap the character that made cap famous and a loved character just because he's currently dead just seems like a poor decision. It's like making hulk red in the next movie because there's currently red hulk in the comics who we all know won't last long (piss poor writing aside)

I'm going to have to disagree with you. Both about the movie potential and about Bucky being a better Cap in the comics than Steve.

Bucky being Cap is interesting and it provides for a lot of good story potential, but Captain America is and always will be Steve Rogers. It's only a matter of time before he's back in the comics and it would be rather silly for his first big budget movie to be about anyone but him.

Or having Loki be a chick in the Thor movie.
