Captain America Movie

This movie will cover some of his time in WW2, I assume the Avengers Movie will cover some of the Culture Shock, and then further movies can explore what America means and whether it stands for anything it was meant to stand for.

You get Sam Wilson and Sharon Carter in there and have him working with Nick Fury in a real spy capacity as well as a symbol of America in the world, you're doing just fine.

I agree. I could see an espionage angle working well with later films. A little bit James Bond, a little bit comic book, but All-American! ;)

Absolutely...

I just got an idea that I like that will never happen, but would be so incredibly awesome. Depending on who wins in November, they should give Captain America a medal in the Avengers movie, or in the second Cap movie.

Imagine if Obama wins. A black president with a muslim name? Now THAT'S what I call culture shock.

:D AWESOME!

If that's the case I want the WWII shield to be in it.

I can see Colbert doing it as far more plausible

especially considering all the Colbert 08 easter eggs in recent comics.

I'd honestly much prefer either Damon or Wahlberg

BLECH!

Especially to Wahlberg. He could not be less of the naive, golden-souled All-American type we're looking for.

I also think Brad Pitt would make a great Captain America, because he can pull off both the scrawny bits and the buff bits. Plus, we all know Brad Pitt hasn't aged since 2000, who better to play someone frozen only to emerge 70 years later.

I still don't get this. It's like people are just hung up on the Pitt choice because he's been the favourite for the past decade. That's the problem. DECADE. Yeah, there's was a time when he would've been great, but Brad Pitt will be pushing FIFTY by the time this comes out. It's not going to work.

I've been thinking about this and I was wondering if the movie has to be set entirely in WWII.

Here's what I'm thinking would work: open the movie with Fury calling together a bunch of researchers (possibly including Stark and Banner) at a research facility or an aircraft carrier at an undisclosed location. He tells that that they've found the first test subject on the super soldier program frozen in the Arctic and launches into an explanation of who Steve Rogers is. (I would have to assume - and who knows, they may not go this route - that Cap's existence was unknown to the general public. If not, it would seem strange for General Ross and Blonsky not to make even a subtle reference to him when they were discussing the program in "Hulk".)

At this point, the story can flashback and the bulk of the movie could be set in WWII while we see flashforwards that would basically be Steve being revived and seeing that most of his family and friends are dead, etc. (Much like the scenes from Ultimates #3.)

I just don't know if there would be time to set his whole "second origin" up in the Avengers movie, when you've got several other characters and a primary plotline to deal with.

EDIT: And as for casting, it might make more sense to go for an unknown.

At this point, thats what I'm hoping for. It'd be easier to find a perfect Cap in a sea of unknown or small name actors, than to try to fit Cap's VERY established look to a big name star like McConnaghy, Damon, Wahlberg, DiCaprio, etc, who would most likely all fall short in the role physically-speaking (I'm not even going to get into a critique of the acting ability they possess in terms of the role). I'd hate to see any of them in it, and would much prefer a smaller name or a complete unknown.

Ashton Holmes from A History Of Violence as young, pre-steroid Cap.

....and if I was sure that he could carry a major film like this, I'd cast Jason Lewis as grown Cap.

......I'm just saying is all.

But aside from toying with some ideas and imaginary scenes of a bulked-up Josh Hartnett, I'm beginning to think that going with an unknown actor would be best.

I think the key is finding someone "young" enough to pull off adult-Cap. A lot of the big name actors that are being tossed around are just too old for the role. But then again, if you think about the general premise of the character, it's not that big a deal. I mean we're talking about some young 19 year old kid who drinks a formula (or 6 months of super steroids/surgery if you use the Ultimate version which I prefer for a film origin) and now looks like he's in his mid30s and leading other superheroes who are in fact older than him.

I think the adult look is more to boost confidence in leadership. Can you imagine Tony Stark and Carol Danvers following a 23 year old guy into battle with aliens? It makes more sense for him to appear older than he basically is.

Late twenties to thirty is the age I'd shoot for. And I agree with DiB, an unknown would probably be best, certainly over any of the actors being pitched now.

I don't want frail-Steve and super-soldier-Steve to be played by different actors, though. I'd prefer they CGI the guy's head onto a frail body, like the shots of Tobey Maguire pre-Spider-Powers in the first movie.

They won't go with an Unknown.

I mean, maybe it would be the best decision (I don't think it would be, you need someone who is well known to be a damn good actor, and a commanding presence on screen), but even if it was, it's a bad move in terms of money-making. It will never happen.

I still think Leo would be a good choice, maybe not the best choice physically for the role, but I think he's proven that he's capable of doing great things, and I'm sure he'd do an excellent job. And yes, he is MUCH more age appropriate than Pitt.

But in general, you can't expect an unknown to come out of the blue and magically be the equal of Norton and RDjr. More than Half of the working actors out there couldn't do it, and the last thing this franchise needs is a weak lynchpin.

I'm sorry, but Leo is just too effeminate to pull off Cap, no matter how good an actor he is. I'm not saying Pitt is a better choice (I definitly don't want him doing it either), but I'd take almost anyone over DiCaprio in the role.

Seriously, look at Leo's face (his face only, since he could theoretically bulk up from the role). When looking at only his face, can you really believe he can pull off Captain America? Because I can't.

Sadly, I think you're right in that they won't go with an unknown actor. Its better business wise to cast a well-known, established actor.

I agree, I mean even with the goatee in Blood Diamond he still had a baby face.

It's all about the pitch and concept with ourchair.

You could have Dame Judi Dench play Capt America and as long as the concept and reasoning behind it is sound, he'd support it.

The fact that a old British woman is the symbol of America patriotism shows the hypocrisy that the US Army had in creating the Super Soldier Program?
