Re: Wolverine: The Movie

Why is it that the only real updates on this movie has been who's the costume designer, who's the producer, who's making their food... :?

Because fanboys are drooling for event bit of detail they can get and websites who provide will get more hits from the morons of geekdom

Wolverine gets a date and title, reported from Newsarama

Variety reports that 20th Century Fox has chosen May 1, 2009 — the familiar, and profitable, first official weekend of summer — to release X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

That's right, the spin-off now has a confirmed title.

Wolverine, starring Hugh Jackman and directed by Gavin Hood, will begin shooting later this year in Australia before moving to New Zealand and then to New Orleans. The trade paper notes that the latter location could mean the inclusion of Gambit in the storyline which, as the title suggests, deals with Wolverine's early years.

According to Variety, Liev Schrieber is reportedly in final talks to play the younger version of William Stryker, portrayed in X2 by Brian Cox.

Wolverine is expected to feature many mutants, some new to the movie franchise and some from the previous three installments.

And from CBR:

WOLVERINE

According to Variety, 20th Century Fox has set a May 1, 2009 release date for the Hugh Jackman-fueled spin off, directed by Gavin Hood from a David Benioff screenplay. The only other film currently claiming that day is Disney's "G-Force." Hood will start shooting in Australia before moving to New Zealand and, later, to New Orleans. Producing are Lauren Shuler Donner and Ralph Winter, producers of the "X-Men" movies, along with Jackman and producing partner John Palermo through their Seed Productions. Marvel's Kevin Feige will executive produce.

Additional shooting details are on tap from The Mountain Scene: "['Wolverine'] will be shot around Queenstown and Central Otago over December and January. According to industry sources, who asked not to be named, a production office has already been set up in town to employ several locals and out-of-towners. The four- to six-week shoot could see 100 or more Queenstowners hired as set builders, grips, runners, drivers, caterers and the like. More than one set will be built in the Wakatipu but shooting will also take place in Central Otago, including Naseby. Interior shooting will take place afterwards at Fox Studios in Sydney.

CBR:

The aforementioned article in the Los Angeles Times also spoke on the Hugh Jackman-fueled spin off. "Just last week, 20th Century Fox issued an announcement that the studio was laying claim to May 1, 2009, as the release date for its big-budget sci-fi spinoff 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' starring Hugh Jackman. This was just days after it issued an urgent SOS to the major agencies looking for a quick rewrite person."

The New Zealand Film and Video Technician's Guild knows exacty when Logan goes before the lenses. "Prep from October 8th; Shooting 10th Dec 2007 - 18th January 2008 (2 week break over Christmas 21st Dec 2007 - 7th January 2008). Locations: Queenstown and surrounds. Production Co: WOZ Productions." How 'bout that?
