Re: X-Men Origins: Wolverine News.
Ok, so one of the biggest problems with the film is that they try to cram too much into it. But I think that goes without saying.
First Mistake
Logan and Creed as brothers? No. No and no. I know there are way too many similarities between the 2 of them for them to not be related....but in the end....no. When you make everyone related---you eventually write yourself into a corner and end up with a bunch of inbred messes.
Now I understand that this isn't gonna stick relatively close to the source material and that you can take artistic liberties in order to entertain the audience and make the material accessible to them. And I'm fine with that. There is no way a giant purple spaceman who eats planets was gonna transfer properly over to the big screen. So I'm ok with a giant sentient space cloud.
But connecting everyone is just dumb. I hate it in the comics....I hate it on Heroes....I hate it here. Silver Fox is Emma's sister? WTF? That doesn't even make sense. You just put Emma in there for the sake of having Emma in there. Lame. You've essentially just ruined a character. And I don't mean in terms of wasting a character. I mean you've completely bastardize her and ruined her backstory and everything that makes Emma...Emma! Lame and dumb.
Second Mistake
Not everything that looks or sounds cool needs to actually happen.
Movie Guy#1: Wouldn't it be cool if Agent Zero was this badass expert marksman who could hit any target without even looking?!?!?! Like in that movie Wanted?!?!?! I mean I know it's not his power or anything....but I mean he didn't really matter in the comic anyways.
Movie Guy#2: Oooooo! Yeah! And what if there's this scene where Deadpool deflects semi-automatic machine gun fire with 2 swords!?!?!?
Movie Guy#1: Can someone's arms even move that fast?
Movie Guy#2: His could.
Movie Guy#1: I likes it! Put that in there. Physics be damned!!!!
I know this is all based on comic books.....but come on. And Blob actually be fit...and become fat because he fell into a depression after Logan left? That's just gay. I don't mean gay as in the awesome Wallace Wells kinda gay. I mean the lame gay. Yeah....it was so lame that I actually debased myself into using 14 year old defammatory remarks.
Third Mistake
Gambit.
There for no real reason. I didn't have a problem with the actor playing him (I in fact love Taylor Kitch's work....especially on Friday Night Lights) even when his accent kept slipping.
But it's just the fact that fans have been waiting on baited breath for him to show up in a film and this is the best you can give us? He served no purpose. You could've just kept Wraith alive and had him show Logan where the island was and then show up at the last minute to teleport him out of the way of the falling building.
Would've saved time and money because that's one less actor to pay and one less power to work out on screen.
Now I wasn't expecting much outta this. And for the most part, despite my complaining, I could care less about Wolverine. As a character, he's lost his luster. The last time I cared about anything he did was in Whedon's Astonishing X-Men. So with such sparse feelings for the character I didn't have high hopes for the film and didn't care if it was that bad.
I would've rather gotten a X-Men reboot based on Astonishing. So with this behind us, I can't say that I'm too excited about a Magneto Origins film either. Instead, I'd rather they do another X-Men film and have animated online comics based on their origins. Like say Magneto: Testament and Wolverine: Weapon X or Emma Frost: Hellfire. Then have those animated comics be available on the DVD.
I also think the end credit scene variants thing is weaksauce as well. Especially since I got a weak one.
Overall....I was entertained for about 90 minutes....but that 90 minutes was filled with complaints.
2 outta 5 Stars-------I'll see it again......but I'm not excited for it. In fact I think I'd rather watch Frank Miller's The Spirit again instead.
Also...I think the thread should now be titled:
X-Men Origins: Wolverine (Spoilers)
