Ever since they announced Havok for this, I just went with the thought that in the movie verse, Alex is the older brother like in the Ultimate Universe.

But that means Alex was 40 when Scott was born!

maybe he just got super aged by the shi'ar like they did with Vulcan (he's supposed to actually be thirteen or something like that)

Que?

Is this still supposed to be a prequel to the original movies? They should just go ahead and drop that pretext.

It was announced a long time ago that this is a reboot.

Then why do they have such a strange first class? I don't get it at all. Why wouldn't you use you're most recognizable characters. Even I have no idea who half of these characters are.

Oh! Good.

I'd guess FOX is worried that the audience is going to associate the characters explicitly with the actors who have already portrayed them? I don't know. It's refreshing to see some fresh characters though.

Yeah. They must think they have a heckuva script to think they can achieve the same level of success (or close to it).

Are you absolutely certain about that? I don't doubt you, its just that I find it hard to believe Fox would be willing to reboot a franchise that they still have other movies in the works for (ie, Wolverine 2, the rumored Deadpool, etc). Its entirely possible, but you'd think the execs would realize that rebooting the franchise with this movie (as opposed to just being a prequel to the existing trilogy) while there are still movies in the pipe for the old franchise...it just doesn't make much sense.

Also, as said, if this were a reboot, you'd better believe we'd see Cyclops, Jean Grey, etc. While its nice to see new characters, even someone who has very little comic knowledge can probably recognize Cyclops, Wolverine, Magneto, etc. Most won't know who the hell Havok, Darwin, or Banshee are. In terms of bringing people in to see your movies, familiar characters can go a long way in terms of making money. If you don't believe me, compare how well (financially-speaking, not critically) a Wolverine would do compared to a movie about...Husk.

It also makes the reports from the set talking about the make-up and costumers trying their best to make this movie's version of Beast being made to look like a younger version of Beast from X3 make no sense.

It is entirely possible this is a reboot, its just that in every instance I've read or heard, its referred to as a prequel to the existing movies. Granted, the two White Queens (the one from this movie and Wolverine), the age thing between Havok and Cyclops, etc, do lean toward it being a reboot, but there's a lot of things leaning toward it just being a regular old prequel (especially the foreshadowing of Erik and Xavier playing chess, set up exactly like in X2).

I'm pretty sure I heard the new Wolverine is independent of any previous movie continuity.

It was reported in one of the first articles after production began, so yeah. I'm sure.

I'm pretty sure I heard the new Wolverine is independent of any previous movie continuity.
Yeap. The director officially said that it has no ties to the previous movies.

Thats just stupid.

Ok.

Except, you know, the same actor, and the continuation of the story of the first one. This one is still set in Japan, right? The last Wolverine movie did end with him over there...just sayin'.

The first Wolverine movie was no good, but to make another, with the same actor, and then say, "Oh, yeah, this is its own thing, ignore those other ones"...its just lame all around. And I say this as someone who's not much of a fan of any of the X-Men movies. Movie directors and their egos...
