Ultimate Colossus

I agree with Caddy...

But its also important to see that the actuality of the super-closeted guy who's gone through a lot of **** and still doesnt have anyone to talk to is a character pretty much any gay man can relate to. I know -I- was like that my freshman year in high school, and i know people who were like that up until college.

Well, i wasn't exactly like pete... Im not a buff hotty who can turn into living steel... but we all have our flaws, no?

So, we're just going to have a homosexual character standing around in our title? I mean, in a relationship, gay or straight, there's depth there that is a very complex thing, without something like that how can sexuality truly be a thing to bank character on? I, for one, believe that it's not entirely worth Marvel's time to dub him gay when he does not act as he is... I'm not saying he's got to jump around flambouyantly, but, if his homosexuality is going to be something that defines his character, you better do something with his preference or he's just as good as straight.

Yeah, I disagree with that. How do you want him to stand out? Dr. Strangefate was on this site for a while. Did anyone know he was gay? No, because he's just like the rest of us. Which is something that marvel is trying point out. Colossus isn't going to stand out unless the panel's and the scene's and the spotlights center on him. Because homosexuals are just like regular people.

I agree. I don't think Peter needs to be flambouyant if he is homosexual. It's not in his nature.

It's not just that. He doesn't have to be flambouyant. Everyone's waiting for Colossus to get a boyfriend. Well I think it's crap that the whole team has hooked up with someone. I don't have a ****in' girlfriend why do I have to have that thrown in my face when I pick up my comic books?

Well I don't think he should have a boyfriend for awhile. I mean he is still in the closet. It'll be awhile. I can't believe people are wanting one for him already.

I see what you're saying about not making his sexuality a point and make the point that, like straights, gays are able to be "regular" people, too. However, I was going by the stuff you were saying about how this will define his character more. To have him be gay without a boyfriend and to have him not flambouyant will leave his preference useless.

I think you're on to something when you said that Marvel was trying to integrate gays into the positive light a little more, but I think gay relationships should get the same treatment. Yes, I believe should all be at once and yes I do think that it'll make people feel uncomfortable, but if they continue to see it then I would imagine it would grow on them.

Well that's what seperates me from the pro-gay colossus fans. I don't need him defined anymore than he already is. The story is being told and I'm in no rush for it. Millar did a good job with it and so did Vaughan. The guy's gay and that's there is too it for me.

Now if they could expand on Cyclops' character more...

Colossus needs to be the leader or something because I find that he is one of the more interesting characters we've got. Now, I know that I've said he needs to be defined, which is true, but I do feel he's ok for the time being.

I think his actions up to this point have made perfect sense, no need for more definition, i just think something has to happen down the road. Let him come out to Jean, and then the two of them can be good friends for a little while, and Peter gets a little more flamboyant (it happens to all gay guys when they're first trying to figure out how to fit homosexuality into their lives)... that gets Bobby and Kurt uncomfortable, so they confront him about it. He then would either risk telling them, or repress it more.

Then you could take it two ways... if he's open, then he can have a crush on Wolverine, and let that take center stage a bit (assuming Wolvie comes back). If he's not, he could still have the hidden crush on Wolvie, but i think the more powerful storyline would be to have Pete hooking up with guys he meets on the internet (nothing graphic would be shown, just seeing him sneak out of the mansion). Some guy tries to assault him, he fights back, the cops show up, and they've got an X-Man in custody. That would out him right there.

There are LOTS of different ways they could take the character of Peter without necessarily centering a story-arc on it (everything could happen with little bits up until the climax, which would prolly be a one-shot).

Well, when I take over the book in a few years, you kids'll know whats coming... But seriously, I hope they do -something- with peter. Even just have him have a PRIDE wristband or something.... But I think the most important thing is to establish who is Peter's best friend, and have him tell him/her. Jean I think is the most obvious... but who knows...

EDIT: I've just re-read that and basically that whole bit -is- defining Colossus, so yeah, Definition = Good. I just dont think he needs to become the lead character of the series.

Too drunk to quote people...

Goodz...Colossus is definitely going to lead somewhere down the road. I agree with you on that.

Doc, everything you said...

Good'z didn't mean lead as in center of the arc so no worries...

There's no need to make Colossus the center of an arc and work on his sexuality ... they're doing fine the way it is now...

I seriously don't think he has a crush on Logan. He just trusts him and is willing to tell him ... think about it...

Well, he's had a leadership position before (As seen in the Most Dangerous Game) and it's entirely possible that Xavier moves him up a few notches to counter Cyclop's anxiousness in the battefield, which I am seeing more and more as Vaugahn writes. We'll have to see where that goes...

Also, I think you've got a lot of great ideas as to how he can be defined. I'd be open to seeing those sorts of things happen.

Colossus

After all these years, is anyone else just amazed by Colossus. Obviously I'm a fan and I may be biased, but I find his character to be...astonishing. Granted he did have a bit of a hissy fit in World Tour, he's since shown himself to be very helpful to the team. Rescuing the sub, single handedly (literally) stopping Iron Man, stopping the train in Weapon X, being the only X-Man standing against Northstar and Havok (for a few moments anyway). Come on...a man made of metal, resisting the Master of Magnetism? I'm not quite sure how reliable wikipedia is, but I read that he's actually a good fighter and doesn't become sluggish when he's in his metal state. I myself can't recall any evidence of this...but I'd love to believe it. Sorry, for the random thread, just felt the need to express my love for the man.

Re: Colossus

He's cool, I just watched the X-Men cartoon with him the other day when he fights Juggernaut.

"Two can play that game!"

Pretend I said that in a thick Russian accent.

Re: Colossus

Colossus is proving to be a great character, especially now that his sexuality is out and on the table. I thought I was opposed to it at first, but I really feel like this is opening some doors for his character... He's becoming a character with a lot of depth, which is something that was certainly lacking when he first showed up in the tite.

This would be a reason why I hope the team stays the same for a while.
