How would you rate Thor?

First I actually really like the idea of Pitt as Thor. And second, here's my idea for the movie.

I think it's important to have Donald Blake and stick to the marvel view of things cause otherwise what makes it a superhero movie.

Act 1:
The movie opens with a huge battle scene. Very epic fight between the asgardians and the frost giants or goblins or whatever. After the battle asgard has a feast. Thor is an arrogant prince who behave very dishonorably to their enemies and to fellow warriors. Odin is not pleased and is very worried about his son being a just king in the future. So he decides to have his son learn humility on Earth. Must to the dismay of his current girlfriend Valkyrie (is it?) but to the pleasure of Loki, He locks away Thor's memory and attaches his soul to that of a crippled infant who had unknowingly died. So Thor grows up as Donald Blake. Odin Decreeing when he is ready the mjolnir will find him

Act 2:
At first he was an angry child, feeling as if he didn't deserve to be crippled. But thanks to a loving mother he learns how to be a good person and dedicates himself to helping others, doing charities and eventually becoming a Doctor. He falls in love with a woman (I forget her name). And at one point They both decide to visit europe (forgive me that I'm not certain what country the thor myth originally comes from).
Meanwhile Loki has been scheming to take over Asgard. And enacts his plan during Odin's sleep. His first attack is successful and he drives the Asaguards out of their kingdom and traps Odin in his sleep. but he fears Thor may return and reclaim the kingdom. So he sends monster to kill Donald Blake. Donald flees into a cave and finds his hammer and becomes Thor and defeats the monsters.

Act 3:
The Asaguards travel to Earth to get Thor to lead them. Loki sends a massive force to Earth and an epic giant battle ensues in the modern world. A battle which eventually leads back into Asaguard Where Thor defeats Loki, locks him in the room with no doors, and revives his father who decrees that Thor has learned how to be a great warrior and a just ruler and welcomes Thor back to to his home. but Thor wishes to remain on Earth for at least for the remainder of Donald Blake's life time, because he is in love with a mortal woman and feels he can do great good for the humans. Odin is disappointed, but also proud and gives his consent.

I love the story of an arrogant god learning the value of humanity. This also can really set up the Ultimates version of Thor for the Avengers, which I think is a much more interesting version for the team movie. Since Thor would not be a guy fighting petty crime in New York, but want to help people who are oppressed all over the world, not so much as hippy as the UU Thor is, but still have that conflict.

As for how I picture Thor looking, I would like the UU version with a more ancient warrior look as opposed to modern clothing. Having a beard, wearing the cape and helmet only in Act 1 and having the 616 version hammer.

That's just what I'd like to see

I think Thor should honestly be a little nuttier than Ultimate Thor. If they can give us Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, they can tap into a little bit of lunatic with Thor. Give him a heavy twist of Drummer from Planetary and if you get Brad Pitt, tell him to play it like 12 Monkeys.

The idea of having the human/god split persona is growing on me. I picture it flashing back between wherever Norse gods live and Earth, and doing the whole "classic epic" god thing with the god characters in the former, and then when you jump to Earth, you have their avatars on Earth who are all bound to some cool personal weapon and who's divinity manifests as slick 21st Century super powers. That could be the start of a wicked franchise. Gods walking on Earth. With Axes. Like, Highlander to the Max.

Interesting

CBR:

A story at IESB claims that director DJ Caruso is being considered to bring Asgard to Earth. "I have had some talks with Marvel about it but I have not seen a screenplay. It could be something that I am interested in," Caruso said. "I was always a fan of Thor growing up as a kid. I know that they [Marvel] have a script, but there's something, there's a fear I have about Thor and depending on what Thor story you want to tell, whether you want to bring Thor into the modern world or if you want to go back to Asgard and get the history of what's happening between him and his brother and dad. That's one I've always been interested in and it also would be, it would be a monumental task so, I could definitely see myself getting myself into that."

I think this is great. Branagh is one of the best directors out there, and frankly, i'm surprised he'd even be interested.

Anyone else think Josh Holloway would make a good Thor, or is it just me? He doesn't look too much different from the Bryan Hitch Ultimate Thor. I mean, Brad Pitt's not a bad choice by any means but I tend to write him off for these types of movies just because he's the internet movie-nerd's official first pick for every well-built, well-known character (just look at any casting debate on imdb.com).

Someone said Daniel Craig, and that's not a bad choice either. But yeah, verily, I submit Josh Holloway.

Let's not get into this lost cause. I still say that either Brad Pitt or Kevin McKidd would be the ideal versions for the character. But the whole thing about HHH being Thor is that I don't think he's right for the role until he's proven himself in an actual acting oppurtunity. But that's my only qualm so far.

My two cents on this wrestling/acting thing...

The plain and simple fact is that most wrestlers are not as talented as Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Sure, some of you will probably say he's not a great actor and I'd have to agree with you. He's not great but he's definitely good and he has a sustainable, movie-star quality. He's also very well-spoken and handsome, which doesn't hurt him when it comes time to cast roles. He's managed to land some meaty roles in successful films and will continue to do so because he is talented and represents himself well. Further evidence of this is that he, in large part, led to the highest ratings in WWF/WWE history. I suppose some credit could be given to Stone Cold and Mick Foley as well, but watching WWF/WWE when the Rock was still with the company, it was pretty easy to tell that he was the top draw in the company. They have never managed to reach those ratings milestones since he left and it will probably be a long time before they do.

HHH is great as a wrestler but outside of playing a few roles as a hired goon or something of that nature, I wouldn't say he's a very good actor, and I definitely wouldn't want to give him a lead role in anything if I were a casting director solely for the fact that he's unproven. What else has he been in? Blade: Trinity? That's all I can think of, besides a cameo on an episode of SNL (hosted by: you guessed it, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson).

So there... out of decades of televised, varied-popularity professional wrestling or sports entertainment, you have one person who managed to crossover into film succesfully. Yes, Roddy Piper, Hogan, Terry Funk and others have also been in films but none of them were really able to forge a sustainable career in the movie industry. Though, They Live is still awesome. It's the original version of Secret Invasion! ;-)

So, in summation... HHH as Thor would be a horrible idea. Time to stop wishing, Mole.

Finally a reasonable wrestling fan

I think Holloway might make a decent pick. I still think Sean Bean is the closest to Hitch's drawings though. And if they're considering Kevin McKidd, I don't see any season Craig wouldn't make a good candidate.

I can understand some people's liking the idea of Craig as Bond, but I'm glad he's not going to play Thor. Thor is a God. Craig just doesn't have the striking good looks that seem reminiscent of a God. His face is too...googly-eyed and lacking in a defined-jawline to EVER pull off Thor in my mind, no matter how good an actor he might be (I've never been impressed, personally). Brad Pitt has been mentioned for years post-Ultimates, but he might be a little too pretty, and in my mind he doesn't possess the right body type. Pitt has more of a swimmer's build...Thor's body should be represented by someone more like the Rock in terms of build. Finding that combination, along with the ability to act, will be tough.
