Re: The strike is on. The S is O!!

As someone who likes BOTH versions of The Office, I'd have to say that most arguments over which one is better are complete baloney.

Baloney made of pure truth-telling.

I've tried to watch the US version of THE OFFICE many times, and every episode has left me wanting to watch the original again as a form of cleansing. I can't stand it. Not because it's "not like the original" but because it's just crappy. It's a very crappy type of US humour I don't like; the "naturalistic" humour because it seems to me, many Americans can't do it because they are so used to hype they can't help but put in gags and situations that have no place in their show, and the laughs it gets are ones generated from the disharmony of those gags. CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM is very much like this, but can be very funny as well. THE OFFICE, I've seen maybe 3 or 4 episodes and I've got to say, I've really, really tried to like it, but it strikes me that the only reason it's set in an office and has any played-down elements is because the original was, when the writers and actors would rather be doing SCRUBS. :|

WGA STRIKE WATCH: DAY FIVE

Smallville" producer Steven DeKnight posted a brief blog on MySpace about the strike, and Paul Dini has updated his online journal with words of encouragement about the labor dispute as well. Mark Evanier dissects the central conflict driving the argument, and is is skeptical that the strike will drive droves of writers into comics and animation work, despite a story in Reuters UK alleging just that.

Creator Seth MacFarlane notes that the November 11th episode of "Family Guy" is "the last fully-produced episode in the can," and he's not going to cross the picket line.

We found two relevant strike specific blogs from columnist Nikki Finke and from the Los Angeles Times.

The BBC notes that California governor Arnold Schwartzenegger is working "backstage" to try and end the strike, and finally, the WGA is staging a huge rally in front of Fox Studios in New York and Los Angeles to mark the fifth day of their work stoppage.

Very cool interviews with
Seth McFarlane
Family Guy: 1 left

and
Ron Moore
BSG: 10 shows starting in April, ending with a mid-season cliffhanger

Both state their cases very well.
