The Social Thread: Houde Ain't Gettin' Some Tonight

So, I got pulled over on Friday night in a speed trap that I always make sure I slow down for, but this time I missed it. The cop gave me 21 (kms so 13 mph) over the speed limit, gave me a ticket b/c apparently my front right headlight was out. And then I realized I hadn't put my new insurance card in my car yet since the old one expired, so i got a ticket for that too.

3 tickets, $280, 2 points.

And the kicker: there's nothing wrong with my headlight. I took my car to a mechanic (for an oil change and emissions testing) and got him to take a look at the lamps as well. he confirmed that they were all fine, so I got him to write that he checked them and they were fine on my bill and I'm going to fight the tickets. I can't prove that I didn't just fix the light, but usually if you take it to court, they just reduce the tickets anyway.

Ah well, c'est la vie, as the kids say.

21 kms over the speed limit!

A couple months ago I was driving down the interstate and was clocked at 24mph over. In some areas that's automatic wreckless driving.

The cop was extremely nice and lenient. I was genuinely shocked that I was going that fast and of course, doubtful (my car had bad tires and driving that fast is impossible). The situation with the cars around me was weird, as well. He gave me a 5 over ticket, which I couldn't believe.

I got a letter that said if I took a $40 online drivers safety test they don't report the ticket to my insurance. So, I did.

I'm very lucky. The whole thing could have been disastrous.

to keep up with the flow of traffic here you have to drive 10 over. It's just the way it is, and you'll never get pulled over for that. Then when the speed limit drops by 10 and you don't see the sign, you're now going 20 over.

wow, that could have been a lot worse. And you're in Michigan, right? aren't the interstate speed limits 70 mph there? So 24 over is 94?

...

Still cheaper than here. Damn, are country is greedy. And Yet still we still having money problems.

I once got stop at a check point. (every once in a while they'll randomly pull people over to see if they have their insurence card.) like you I forgot to change out my insurence card. The Ticket... $2,000.00. But all I had to do is prove to the court that I had my insurence payed up to that point and it got dropped.

Yep and yep. I was very fortunate to get a nice cop who could tell I was genuinely shocked I was going that fast and wasn't trying to be an idiot.

I said it was a weird situation on the road - I was coming up on my exit and there was a stretch of 3 huge semis, with a car in between 2 of them. By the time I saw their position relative to my exit, I couldn't get in the exit lane; I would have had to slam on my brakes and basically stop in the middle of 70mph+ traffic. I instinctively thought it would be better to speed up rather than slam on my brakes and risk causing a crash. I just had no idea I sped up that much.

Also it is weird that I didn't see the cop; he must have been in a position where they always speed trap, and I always watch for them (even though I actually very rarely speed!). I can't believe I didn't see him.

My very first ticket, which I got at age 17, was for 21 over.

i don't speed ridiculously any more. I used to, but then i realized how dumb it was and stopped. Fastest I've ever gone...160 in an 80 (100 mph in a 50). That was dumb. It was on back country roads, but in Ontario, 50 over is automatic roadside seizure of your car, suspension of your license, $5000 fine and possibly jail time. And I was going 60 over. So stupid. I thought about it afterwards and realized how fast I was actually going and scared myself. Thank God I didn't get caught.

When I think about how I used to drive with my cousin on rural roads when I was younger...ugh. So stupid.

But it's one of those things - people will do it I think just to see what it's like, even though it's not a great learning experience.

13 miles.
Nope. Not a lot.

I'll be in court on Monday for driving 25 miles over the speed limit last week. It could have been worse, the cop originally thought I stole my truck because he ran the plates wrong. Apparently my trailer hitch obscured one of the numbers. Fortunately, he corrected his mistake and didn't arrest me, which would have been a ***** to explain at work the next day.

I don't know if I scratched my eyeball taking a contact out, or if there is something in there, or if I just have pink eye, but my right eye is bloodshot, swollen, sore, and the pupil is constricted (small).
