The Music Thread : It's So Easy To Fly Through A Window

This is all because Radiohead needed to pull a dick move to replenish their credit because their rock license needs to be renewed

So, what do you cats know about Immortal Technique?

I just picked up Third World last week, and I haven't taken it out of my CD player yet. It's the best hip-hop album I've heard in years. He's got the tricky lyricism of Wu-Tang mixed with the hard beats of Nas, and the political-cultural outrage of Zach de la Rocha. Anyone who digs socially conscious hip-hop, or even Rage Against the Machine, should check this guy out.

Edit: And speaking of de la Rocha.... Has anyone heard anything from One Day As a Lion yet?

Lick Shots is probably the worst song on the mixtape. it's not an album by any real means. it's mixed by Eminems' DJ Green Lantern. You need to pick up Revolutionary Vol.1 and Vol.2 Revolutionary Vol.3 is supposed to be coming out soon and is supposedly going to consist of 60+ tracks and will also be the final volume in the series. I believe he's working on another album with Akir.

Dance With The Devil, The 4th Branch and Industrial Revolution (which garnered a hiphop quotable from the Source or the other rap magazine) are among some of his best singles but honestly, I can listen to each album from begin to end.

Treason is another good song with him and Akir just to show you want kind of rapper Akir is.

EDIT: last video was a little laggy but i found a better one that has Apocalypse intro before Treason

Has anybody noticed how early, '80s Metallica almost sounds like they're in a stadium/arena, with James Hetfield yelling, and '90s Metallica sounds more studio-like since as they went mainstream?

My concert tour this summer...

Starting off with BRUUUUCCCEEE!!! in the spring (I know -- no surprise) I think I'm gonna end up seeing him about 5-6 times this summer. So far 2 shows in Phila, 1 in Hershey, PA, and 1 at Penn State.

Poison, Def Leppard, Cheaptrick - in Scranton

Billy Joel/Elton John
- in Boston

Cruefest - Motley Crue, Godsmack, Theory of a Deadman, Drowning Pool, and Charm City Devils.

Lollapalooza - Acts haven't been announced yet (Chicago)

Capping it off with U2 in September.

a few smaller gigs at the local venues and bars and possibly coldplay.

Coldplay was fantastic when I saw them.

As overrated as U2 is, I would love to see them live.

Just posted on Rolling Stone:

"There was good news and bad news for Smashing Pumpkins fans this weekend: Billy Corgan is back in the studio working on the band's new album, but he'll be doing so without drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, who has left the group for an unspecified reason. Chamberlin's departure was announced in a terse, two-sentence press release sent strategically late on Friday, March 20th, while most of the music industry was in Austin for the South By Southwest Festival or had already left work for the day. The statement said Corgan will continue to record under the Smashing Pumpkins moniker. And just like that, Billy Corgan has joined the Axl Rose club. "I Am One" indeed."

Thanks for the word. I've heard some singles off the earlier albums, but never heard the other discs all the way through. "Lick Shots" is by-far the weakest song, and the beats aren't all that.... But honestly, we just don't get a lot of good, hard hip-hop down here. There's all this talk about Atlanta, but all we're churning out these days seems to be club rap. So So Def is pretty awful. The only guarantee you have an album down here will be good is if it comes out of the Dungeon Family.

Do share your musical preferences, please. I'm dying to know how much more awesome yours are.

Eh?

I just thought it was funny that the guy who's livelihood is based on being a badass dick is going to Coldplay and Elton John concerts.

I don't disagree.

I like a lot of those bands but I wouldn't be caught dead at a concert without my wife, as if I had to prove my heterosexuality.

But I'd still like to see your favorites.

:sure:

What? You think it's "less manly" to go to a Coldplay or Elton John concert with friends other than girls. Personally I would rather take a girl to any concert but 7/10 want to go see Britney and Lady Gaga. Now, gentlemen, when I come onto the site and post that I'm going to see the Spice Girls reunion with my boys then you could probably start talking.

Also I don't come on here looking to be a "badass". But if you guys consistently stigmatize me that way... where do I go from there?

And I would sit through a James Taylor concert with my buddies if I had the chance... honestly, grow up.

The Pearl Jam 'Ten' reissue came out yesterday. It's 'Ten' with a bonus disc remixed and remastered by Brendan O'Brien (who produced almost everything Pearl Jam did except for 'Ten') and a DVD of their Unplugged performance, which was excellent and was never commercially released. The remastered disc also has 4 or 5 additional unreleased songs and a couple of demos.

The remixed version of the album is good - it does sound better and even listening in my car I was able to pick up certain things I'd never heard before.
