The DVD purchase thread

I don't know what a Best Buy is.

They're like an, uh, entertainment retail chain. I don't know what the equivalent down in NZ is but I guess they're like Virgin Superstores. They sell DVD's, CD's, video games, along with TV's and computers and stereo systems and the like.

I thought he was being sarcastic.

Not only have I never been to a Best Buy or a Virgin Superstore, but I don't even live in New Zealand anymore.

i picked that up at Walmart a year or so ago. I love those things. They're great if you want the series of something, you don't want to pay much, and you don't care about extras. I have the Superman quadrilogy in that format, and they also have the Batman quadrilogy, but i already own all four movies.

My SCOTT PILGRIM Blu-ray won't play as my Blu-ray player is one of the oldest models. That's utter **** that you need to upgrade just to be able to watch certain movies. I've never been able to listen to a Pixar audio commentary either, due to having this Blu-ray player. Now I've ordered the LET ME IN Blu-ray off Amazon, but I'm afraid it's not going to play, either. I was going to just save up for a PS3, as I've heard that those never need to be updated -- or at least, not as often -- but I had no idea they were 300 dollars. Blerg.

Also ordered off Amazon: TIME AFTER TIME. Has anyone else seen it? It's so awesome. Malcolm McDowell plays H.G. Wells who time travels to the 1970s to escape from Jack the Ripper and then falls in love with Mary Steenburgen.

The PS3 is worth it, not just for blue rays but also playing a multiple of other formats , thats all i use mine for now-a-days. and the internet uplink is cool on some of those blue ray features too.

Today I bought all the MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE movies, used. They were really cheap, too. One was for $6 and the other two were for $4. It was even cheaper than if I had bought the used copy of the box set that had all three in one. Can't wait to watch them.

HOW INTERESTING.

Yes! I own and love that film. A key factor in my interest in H.G. Wells and his stories.

I second the what the hell above...

But apparently Best Buys are now selling the limited edition full directors cut of Almost Famous, from back when it was still called "Untitled". I need to hunt this down (aka, I need to stop at the best buy right near the subway on my way home from work this week...)

Yup, the LET ME IN Blu-ray turned out to not play on my player. Ugh. Time to start saving up for a PS3. Luckily my birthday is coming up in a couple of months, so that may or may not help with the savings...
