The DVD purchase thread

Today I bought Police Academy The Complete Collection boxset after the talk in the chatroom the other night when I mentioned how much I loved the first few. in town today saw boxset for just £70. Pretty cool and I'll watch them all even if I remember the last few been terrible.

The other day I bought my brother Tropic Thunder for his birthday. He loved it and I had never seen it, so I bought it for him.

And then he watched it one time on his own and lost the disc.

I'm sad now.

I have that one as well.

Police Academy didn't age well, but that's what makes it so fascinating to watch again. Half the time I'm butting my head against the coffee table.

I still enjoy the first film. Watched it last night before bed. I was watching and thinking "Hmmm that Karen looks familiar who is it. Then it clicked. It was Samantha from Sex and the City but young!" But overall I enjoyed film now as much as always. Tonight I watch 2

I bought Hulk Vs, Hellboy II, and Zack and Miri. The only one I've seen is Hellboy II.

Circuit City is going out of business, so at the mall store they have everything at 30-60% off. Bought me Venture Bros. Season 1 as well as Stargate (the movie, 1994).

All of the Circuit City stores around here have already had their sales and closed down.

What happens with the items they don't sell? I had seen like tens of copies of The Dark Knight and Iron Man everywhere. Even if they sell some, they'll still have lots left over.

They send them to Africa and then mock them for not been able to watch them. Is it mean? ... ok maybe a little. But is it hilarious? Hell yes,Every time!

I don't know the specifics of how it works, but everything is in the hands of the liquidators, and what gets sold is used to pay off the creditors - so what I assume happens is that anything left over is either dumped into the second hard market (places like Marshall's) or returned to the manufacturers.

It's really kind of surreal in the last few days. People are buying up light fixtures and racks, and there are lines going all the way to the back of the store because people don't know that Amazon sells the same DVDs for 30-40% off every single day. :D

Seriously!

I went in today since I was hanging out with some friends at the mall. One of 'em said he's been there a couple times already this week.

We have 3 of them in our general area and I went to all 3 at various times...and bought nothing from any of them. When things were 10-20% off it was STILL more expensive than even Best Buy, never mind Amazon.

Last dvd I bought wasn't for me. I bought "St. Elmo's Fire" for my little 2 year old nephew. I know he likes Elmo and wanted an "Elmo live" toy for christmas so I figure he will like this Elmo film. Though looking at the cover I don't know any characters, I guess Sesame Street has just changed since I was young one. Still the film was cheap too which is good.

St. Elmo's Fire is good. Say Anything is better though and dare I say Better off Dead best teen angst comedy ever? i do dare.

also Graboid has replaced my dvd buying experience for only 15.99 a month.
