The Apple Products Thread

So... I said screw it, since I'm single now, I blew my "cruise fund" on a new MacPro. I'll have it next week.

Octo-Core 2.8GHz (dual 2.8GHz Quad-core Xeons)
4GB 800MHz FB-DIMM (going to eventually expand to 32GB of RAM)
500GB HDD (going to add more later)
nVidia 8800 GT 512MB graphics card

Got it refurbished for $2499

I'd waaaay rather have than than go on a cruise.

A great story I found while researching on iPods for a marketing paper:

Lightning zeroes in on teenagers tunes.

Jason Bunch was listening to Metallica on his iPod while mowing the lawn outside his Castle Rock home Sunday afternoon when lightning hit him.

The last thing the 17-year-old remembers was that a storm was coming from the north and he had only about 15 minutes before he should go inside.

Next thing he knew, he was in his bed, bleeding from his ears and vomiting. He was barefoot and had taken off his burned T-shirt and gym shorts. He doesn't know how he got back in the house.
I much prefer the headline which Cult of Mac gave the story: "What's worse, Metallica or Lightning?"

As I mentioned earlier, I got my iPod Touch tonight.

Finally finished syncing everything a few minutes ago. It's quite awesome. It's all pretty and shiny.

Tomorrow or Friday I'm heading out to go buy a new router (to get online with aforementioned iPod and jailbreak the thing.) and a speaker of some kind.

Can someone recommend a good iPod speaker that won't cost me the equivalent value of several organs on the black market?

No. All the good ones cost a lot of money, and I'm being totally serious.

Make sure you get some kind of protective film for it. The Apple store sells some nice static cling covers that reduce glare and they don't take away from the screen sensitivity.

Sexynurse got some from Target, and they were cheaper than the ones Apple has.

And they work just as well.

Yeah, actually any powered computer speakers work just fine.

I got a A/V dock, was more practical to use my prexisting stereo receiver and speakers.

Are you talking about speakers or covers?

He asked about *good* speakers...if you want ones that sound good, they will cost a lot of money. The Bose Sound Dock is $300 or more. Yeah, you can get cheaper speakers at Target or several million other places, but they will not be *good* - especially compared to the Sound Dock or the Apple Hi-Fi.

Hmm.

Well, by "good", I meant "ones that aren't total crap". I don't need insane sound quality, just something I can throw my iPod in when I want some background music while doing stuff. For serious listening, I'll just put in the earphones.

I saw one last week that was a speaker, alarm clock, and charger for about $40.

i found a nice, inexpensive cover for the back (please apple, let's move on from the polished aluminum backs) at Wal-Mart.
Already got that covered. (Pun!)

My sister got me one of those clear plastic shells. It came with a screen cover and a shammy. (Which is far superior to the one packaged with the iPod. It doesn't work at all.)

Oh god I know, now the chamois that came with my dad's new iMac, that's really nice. Me, I got one from an auto parts store.

There you go. I would probably recommend trying them out before you buy anything - if you take your iPod to a Best Buy or something you can test them out even if you don't want to buy them there.

I stayed at a hotel a while ago that had an iPod alarm clock and the sound on it wasn't *too* bad.

I need another 160 GB Classic. Mine's almost full.
Hot damn! How many songs do you have on there? Do you also have movies/photos, etc?

I don't have a lot of songs (least for songs already on my laptop), but I'll have all that I got, plus (right now) one or two movies, my HIMYM episodes, and podcasts.

No photos or pictures.

About 48,000, and no movies. I've got about 3 TV shows on it.

It's more expensive, but if it's mostly TV shows and movies you're using it for have you thought about an iPod Touch? Much better screen for video...

No, I won't be using it for mostly movies or TV shows. It'll be for songs, but I'll have some shows and movies for say when I'm on the road and want something to help pass the time.
