That Thread About Work: "Custom kitchen deliveries...!"

All right, work day part two is ON!

I am PUMPED!

How did this go?

I had a great day at work today, making up for the weeks of bad times.

I went to a management class today, for seven hours, and it was great. I loved learning about the employee relationships, how people think, how people perceive you, and how they should, all that jazz. I'm being serious here, it was a very interesting experience.

After that, I returned to my desk just in time to get a call from an old friend. He said he heard through tthe grapevine about what had happened, though he lives in California, and hasn't talk to me in a few years, he wanted to talk to hear the information from me. We talked about various Lean Manufacturing themes and ideals, and it was awesome. He basically told me what to do, and I brought the idea to my boss, and he agreed. Then my boss proceeded to tell me what happened wasn't my fault, and then agreed on the plan I decided to act with, and it was awesome.

All in all, a great day at work.

I survived my horribly long day, got home around 12:30pm and slept until almost 8pm. Now I'm back at work. They say they're hiring a couple new guys to start next week, so hopefully this will be my last midnight shift and my last 12-hour shift.

I think I told the story here about the guy I met in the library a couple weeks ao who asked me about this job (because I had the work jacket on). At the time I was only freelancing with this company, but I gave him the number and they just hired him. Now I'm his boss!

Last night I walked home from Mcdonalds around 10ish.

I had my uniform on.

I smelled of French Fries and Shame.

Skullhammer.

It's the new sitcom premiering this fall:

Welcome Back, Skullhammer!

"Yo, Mistuh Skullhammah! Up yah nose with a rubbah hose!"

I'm now working on an order about the scientific inaccuracies of Michael Bay's Armageddon.

It's amazing the kind of papers people won't do for themselves.

I have another Epic Day ahead of me. My new job asked me to wrok midnight-noon Saturday because they need an extra day to process the two new people they hired, and then my old job called me and asked me to work whenevr I could get there on Friday until 7:30pm, so I'm pretty much working from midnight tonight until noon Saturday with only about 3 hours off in between.

Air conditioner's down at work. Hot day. Very humid, got worse and worse. Shift ended in a sauna. Work again tomorrow. News-Flash level heat-humidity wave hits tomorrow. A/C still down. Got asked to work an 11 hour shift during today, too. Nuh-uh. 7.5 is bad enough.

I'm working from 2pm until 6am Sunday-Monday. I am not looking forward to that.

And Planet-man's complaining about working 7 1/2 hours in one day.

My main gripe about my job is they often have nothing for me to do, so I just have to walk around in circles for hours or stand at the door and say hello to people. I'd rather have to holepunch pricetags for 8 hours than do that for 6, especially when it's so hot and humid.

What kind of job gets canceled because the weather is a little warm?
An after-school program. They're afraid the heat will get to the kids, especially since the head-honchos downtown don't want the school to turn on the AC around the whole school (they're only on in the offices and teacher's lounge).

It's really ****ed up that they rather save money than keep the kids cool.
