Supergirl TV Series [SPOILERS]

Re: Supergirl TV Series

Supergirl Series Lands on CBS

CBS has given a series commitment to an hour-long drama about Kara Zor-El, the DC Comics heroine who escaped the planet Krypton amid its destruction. Having hid all this time on Earth the powers she shares with "her famous cousin" (as the official logline cheekily puts it), 24-year-old Kara decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and "be the hero she was meant to be."

The pilot (which was first announced two weeks ago) was penned by Ali Adler (No Ordinary Family) and Greg Berlanti (Arrow), both of whom will exec-produce alongside Sarah Schechter (of Berlanti Productions) and Warner Bros. TV.

Though there was some talk that the series might not actually be titled Supergirl, TVLine has confirmed that is the name.

Cool. Guess this confirms it definitely won't be in the Arrow/Flash continuity (wishful thinking aside, you're not likely to see a crossover between competing network and cable channels. Wonder how they'll handle the "famous cousin"/Superman thing. Only the occasional reference, from time to time? That might get old. Could they possibly tie it into the DC film universe? Maybe, but probably unlikely given their aversion to doing so with any of the other TV series.

Re: Supergirl TV Series

From the casting call for Supergirl (and her 'foster sister'):

"For Kara Zor-El aka Kara Danvers, the show is eyeing Caucasian females, age 22 to 26, to play 24. As the series' mythology goes, Kara at age 12 was sent from her dying home planet of Krypton to Earth, where she was taken in by the Danvers, a foster family who taught her to be careful with her extraordinary powers. After repressing said skills for more than a decade, Kara is forced to bust out her super moves in public during an unexpected disaster. Energized by her heroism for the first time in her life, she begins embracing her abilities in the name of helping the people of her city, earning herself a super moniker along the way.

The other lead role currently being cast is that of 26-year-old Alexandra "Alex" Danvers, Kara's gorgeous, brilliant, science-minded foster sister. Growing up, Alex was partly jealous of her sibling yet also fascinated by her abilities, prompting Alex to learn as much as she could about alien anthropology, sociology and culture. Today, Alex works for a secret government organization and, alongside her heroic sis, will face many challenges, both mundane and super.
"

Sounds like Superman told differently to me.

Re: Supergirl TV Series

Yeah its part superman without needing superman. Could be interesting as it makes sense as she was taught lessions by Clark + the Kents ect... BUT with no superman in this world they need her to learn them for herself.

I'm warm, but I'm not expecting much. It would be awesome if they got Tom Welling to play Clark but I think they might have already cast him.

Supergirl will air Mondays at 8pm, beginning in November

Synopsis:

SUPERGIRL is an action-adventure drama based on the DC Comics character Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), Superman's (Kal-El) cousin who, after 12 years of keeping her powers a secret on Earth, decides to finally embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be. Twelve-year-old Kara escaped the doomed planet Krypton with her parents' help at the same time as the infant Kal-El. Protected and raised on Earth by her foster family, the Danvers, Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex (Chyler Leigh), and learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin in order to keep her identity a secret. Years later at 24, Kara lives in National City assisting media mogul and fierce taskmaster Cat Grant (Golden Globe Award winner Calista Flockhart), who just hired the Daily Planet's former photographer, James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), as her new art director. However, Kara's days of keeping her talents a secret are over when Hank Henshaw (David Harewood), head of a super-secret agency where her sister also works, enlists her to help them protect the citizens of National City from sinister threats. Though Kara will need to find a way to manage her newfound empowerment with her very human relationships, her heart soars as she takes to the skies as Supergirl to fight crime.
