Deadline have also now reported on the potential Supergirl series, but contradict the earlier stories saying that Michael Green was behind the project, stating that he has no involvement. However, they do say Supergirl is in active development, with Greg Berlanti, one of the executive producers of Arrow and The Flash, involved, teamed with Ali Adler (Chuck, The New Normal, Glee). Berlanti and Adler previously worked together on No Ordinary Family. Deadline also notes DC's Geoff Johns is expected to be involved and that it "will be a new interpretation of the Supergirl character and her story."

It's expected that the Supergirl series will be shopped to the networks by WBTV in the weeks to come - the same process that resulted in FOX nabbing the much sought-after Gotham.

Deadline's Nellie Andreeva also says in her report, "The Supergirl show doesn't have a name yet. I hear the producers are considering several options that need to be cleared, including Super and Girl."

From : http://uk.ign.com/articles/2014/09/04/reports-say-dc-are-developing-a-supergirl-tv-series (i posted updated part not everything)

:D:D:D:D:D I'm so happy about this. I've lost count of how many times I've wanted a Supergirl movie or show (i know it had a movie BUT that was handled with as much care and effort as Amazing Spider-man 2 or Batman & robin. I still want/wanted new Spiderman and Batman stuff) So yay! New supergirl tv show!!!!

Though i'm confused ..... "It's expected that the Supergirl series will be shopped to the networks by WBTV in the weeks to come - the same process that resulted in FOX nabbing the much sought-after Gotham." Lets see Supergirl has .... Teen age girl , Coming to terms with powers and who she is , Drama with non-superhero co-cast, Action/fantasy elements and a relate-able and likeable character......... HOW THE **** IS THIS NOT ON CW THAT WB OWNS THEMSELVES! but still happy and will watch

"The Supergirl show doesn't have a name yet. I hear the producers are considering several options that need to be cleared, including Super and Girl."

what

Is this not tied into Arrow and Flash then? I heard that it was.

Apparently not. I read an article that stated it specifically wasn't a part of the same universe as Arrow and Flash.

I'm thinking DC is trying to create 52 different universes in their TV and Film projects as well (Arrow/Flash, Gotham, Constantine, whatever this show is called, Super or Girl--idiotic names, iZombie, the DC Film Universe... am I missing any others?).

I took that as they want to call it Supergirl

Supergirl as the title would be fine. But instead they're thinking about "Super" or "Girl" as the title... which is moronic.

See below (and in the post you actually quoted):

"The Supergirl show doesn’t have a name yet. I hear the producers are considering several options that need to be cleared, including Super and Girl."

"Super" or "Girl", as one of several options they're considering, isn't "Supergirl". I can only hope "Supergirl" is a title they're actually considering, because if they seriously title the show "Girl" or "Super" I'm going to further lose hope in Hollywood... if that's even possible.

You gotta stop taking things so literal man. He's not saying them not combined. Also Super was a fantastic movie.

You need to remember network execs are often complete boners, who lack foresight and imagination. I could completely see them pushing "Super" or "Girl" since they think it sounds "edgy" or "cool" as opposed to "Supergirl".

Re: Supergirl TV Series

I like the name "Super" if they are going the other way. Reminds me of "Arrow" "gotham" and such. "Girl" no lol But A supergiirl show called "Super" I can dig

I'm sure that'll have no negative responses at all.

Update
In a follow-up interview with Comic Book Resources, Greg Berlanti (Arrow, The Flash) has confirmed that he is at work on a Supergirl series, but says that they are not yet pitching to networks as was previously reported.

"We're just starting to work on it," Berlanti told the outlet. "We haven't gone to the networks yet, so. I'll be happy, very excited to talk about it once we know where its home will be and that kind of stuff, but not at this moment."

Originally, it was reported that writer/producer Michael Green was at work on the series, which was not expected to go to the CW. That door now seems open, though it is as yet unclear where, if anywhere, the Supergirl series will land.

Just thought i'd update since orginal link now has updated :)

I do hope they aim to make it a part of the same universe as Arrow and The Flash. I know it depends completely on which network purchases the show, but given the success CW has had with Arrow (and likely will have once The Flash starts airing), it would make sense. Course the budget of the show, in addition to the budgets of Arrow and The Flash, may prove too expensive for CW, not sure. Then again, perhaps not.

I really just wish DC could get their act together and make one universe where all their shows and movies take place. I feel like they're trying to rush into recreating what Marvel did with movies and it's not working for them. They should recognize the advantage they currently have in tv shows and use those to boost their brand. Because in a year or two Marvel's Netflix shows are going to come out and that advantage will be gone.

Re: Supergirl TV Series

To be fair the movies + tv show been septate is good. I mean the tv universe can do stuff around its budget and work. Like gotham, It wont have the budget of Dark Knight vs Man of steel so the city will be too different for a "meh its in the past" reasoning. Plus Supergirl could have more of an arrow style look and not man of steel which is fine. Plus the shared universe can be an issue. What marvel is doin is good BUT separate continuities works too.

Re: Supergirl TV Series

I've had a theory for a while now that the reason nothing connects is because they want to do a Crisis. Maybe I'm giving them too much credit though.

Yeah, I doubt that. Coordinating that between all the different writing teams, producers, and networks makes that pretty unlikely.

It'd probably be pretty cool, but they'd never do it. It would also likely be odd for viewers who only watch one of the shows (in terms of the crossover thing). While Arrow and Flash will have those crossover elements, it can pull it off since the majority of viewers will likely watch both shows. That's probably not the case with Gotham, Constantine, etc.

Re: Supergirl TV Series

They could pull it off in a film I bet. Or hell, even a comic.

Yeah, maybe. But it probably wouldn't be very good. First, it'd require either a prohibitively huge cast, or require the existing actors to play the different versions of those characters from the different realities (which is more likely). Then you run into the problem of balancing those different versions across the film, allowing them the chance to showcase their differences and variations from the main continuity, etc. It could be done maybe with only one, maybe two alternative universe versions of the main hero characters, though even that wouldn't allow much opportunity for development.

I doubt they'll bother using a Crisis storyline onscreen. More trouble than it's worth, and not necessary since as far as the film continuity is concerned, there's only the one reality. That could change, but I doubt it will. They'd probably feel it'd be too confusing/complicated for general audiences.

Or hell, even a comic.

:p
