Snap out of it, man!! It's Alex. It has to be. Anyone else would just be completely lame on Vaughan's part and BKV is anything but lame. How many other African American children with connections to The Pride would be watching The Runaways so closely? Get pysched!
First of all, let me say that I have no doubt it will be somebody who *looks* like Alex leading the new Pride, even if it turns out that it's not *really* him. (Similar to the Doom-Bot fake-out, in "True Believers".)

As for the real identity of the Nu Pride leader -- I could happily accept that Mr. Wilder/Alex's father either (a) couldn't keep it in his pants, or (b) had an affair -- and a child -- with a member of the rival group, in a misguided attempt to "unite the houses", so to speak, in the Mafia family way.

Same Wilder genes = similar appearance, and common predisposition for plotting and scheming.

Compound has a very good point.

I'm of the firm belief that there's a hell of a lot more to it than simply Alex returning. I've said this before, and I'll say it again.

Why conceal his face? Vaughan would know that everybody would immediately jump to the conclusion of Alex at the sight of a young black male seemingly plotting against the Runaways, so why didn't Vaughan allow Alex's face to be shown? Why go for theatrics and deception when it's blatantly obvious who it is? Which is why I don't believe it (yet).

I think it's a red herring. I think compound is pretty close on the mark with this.

Precisely....

Wait..... are you being sarcastic?

Because I seem to remember you were one of the ones who was passionately against me when I was talking about this a while back....

Sarcastic? No.

Re: Runaways series discussion (spoliers)

This was pretty sweet.

Molly and Wolverine was by far, the best thing in the issue. "I won't tell anyone about it if you won't bub."

Victor and Molly rock together.

But I was hoping to see Spidey one more time.

And what the **** is up with Chase? How did he use the staff?

"TO BE CONTINUED..."

Yeah.....I was wondering about that. Is it as long as the staff is out....anyone can wield it's power?

We've seen Alex (and I think someone else) use it, so yeah I think so. But there's definitely something happening with Chase.

As for Alex and all of you nay-sayers... I'm just glad Vaughan's writing the book.

Nay-sayers? I'm just not naive. I don't believe everything that's thrown at me on the page. I have the utmost faith in Vaughan pulling it off if this is the real Alex, which, yes, it certainly could be but.....

I just don't understand why Vaughan is being so reluctant in showing us a face when practically every Runaways reader out there has immediately jumped to the conclusion that it's Alex. What point is there in hiding his face when we all know who it is?

I mean, if it is Alex, it would be like an artist drawing the Hulk, torn purple pants and all, even in his own title, but disguising the face. We all know who it is, so what do you gain by hiding his face?

When it comes to the inevitable one page, end of the issue reveal, and it is Alex, then everyone would have known already, so there would be no shock, no tension, no nothing. The only way this could surprise, is if it wasn't Alex.

Sorry for rambling about this so much, but I really don't understand why so many people here are just swallowing what they're given without even questioning it......

I'm swallowing it because it tastes good. I don't want some big twist that says, "oh, look it's not Alex. You've been had." I'm not insulted if the story doesn't make me think a bit more. It's good enough as it is. The people want Alex Wilder and want him to bring the Nu Pride to a noticeable level of threat.

As for the final page. I've been saying this on other boards but I was thinking about Alex's spiel about how a Runaway will die. A runaway will not die. I'll bet my membership on it. The book is all about the kids controlling their destinies and going against all that's been prophesized so far.

Re: Runaways series discussion (spoliers)

I can't wait for Vol. 5 to come out.

Re: Runaways series discussion (spoliers)

i was thinking that it might have been Alex's twin brother, that was given up for adoption, but knew everything about the pride cuz they kept him in the loop. make sence?

Yeah. Just not as cool as it being Alex. Funny how some people want a "little brother" scenerio. Didn't the same thing happen in the O.C. to boost ratings... or attempt to boost ratings. Yeah, that's exactly what I want.

Re: Runaways series discussion (spoliers)

It'd be awesome if it was Alex, and than having his 'full return appearance' in issue 18. That would rock.

O.C? that show is still going? i stopped watching that after the 3rd esp.

not younger brother, i was hoping an older one. during the time that Alexs rentz were doing crime they might have given up a kid. and since Alex had a year to "try" and find stuff out about the pride he might found him and gave him info.

Or

he used the staff of one to make a clone of himself while everyone was out and controlled it from a different location, thus when the Gibbsons destroyed Alex they only killed a clone. And thus that being the reason that Nico wasn't able to bring him back.
