Runaways Vol. 2 #1-24 (Brian K. Vaughan/Adrian Alphona) (spoilers)

I kinda saw it coming, actually -- when Future-Gert first arrives in issue #1, she mentioned something like "Karolina is still here, so this must be 2004".

For some reason, that line stuck with me, when I read the solicitations for #8, about Karolina needing to make the 'ultimate sacrifice' for the group (or soemthing along those lines). First thing that came to mind: she'll be off to find her home-planet.

Incidentally, her sudden departure really makes me feel like I'm reading classic New Mutants issues (circa the Demon Bear stuff), considering the racial and gender diversity of the kids, and how fragile their memebership of the group is.

I didn't read the solits, and didn't remember the line. That's great though. I didn't see it coming.

And, you're right MWOF, if Alex is back, she'll definately be back - but the Runaways don't know it, and it's nice to have the roster shaken up in a way that doesn't involve a big bad raping someone.

That said - I had this terrible feeling that after she left, we get an 'epilogue' and we discover Xavin was lying and she's being taken back as a trophy/ slave/ criminal because she's one of the only remaining members of her race and she's gonna be executed... (not that she wouldn't somehow, y'know... runaway...)

i thought this was a pretty good issue, still hated the art though. but i liked how it ended, it was fitting the way that you just see one of the members just leave. now its off to NYC, but if cloak and dagger had there minds erased then how will they remember the kids?

no one else gets one, i'll get one for you tonight when i get home.

Well, I got True Believers (V4 Digest) today. I'll probably throw my thoughs up later after I've read it.

And XTF (I love calling you that ), in the last two issues we had the team take down The Swarm (One of my favorite marvel villians) and then go shopping. At the end of 7 we found out that Karolina was set up in an arranged marriage to a super-skrull oin training. In 8 she learned that her race and the skrulls have been locked in a pretty nasty war since her parents sold out the planets location. After a bit of soul searching she decided to go with the skrull in an attempt to bring peace to the two nations.

I've got a bad feeling about this....

Thanks Baxter but I read the Karolina story. Good lookin' out though.

Okay, I finally got all four digests. Great series. Love all the kids. Did anyone else catch that Karolina's parents were making deals with a Skrull in Season 1 and then in Season 2 she leaves with one?

Anyway, going with the 'Alex's new Pride are his MMORPG friends' means that one of them is missing. In the start of Season 1, it showed in the MMORPG, Captain America, Invisible Woman, Spider-Man, Daredevil and the Hulk. As Alex came back to his hideout, there were only 3 other people. Which means that one of the MMORPG guys is not there, or isn't part of their group.

That's what you get for reading them all in one sitting... great observations Project. The MMORPG is probably the guy being Daredevil. He/She is obviously too cool for Alex and his crew.

Plus, he's probably busy with his cousin's retarded girlfriend.

If anyone can remember that... I'll definately be picking up the rest of the digests from now on.

Another observation...

Gert's dad, when discovering that the 'runaways' have the Abstract, says "Once they'll read it, they'll know everything! Our past! Our plans for the Next Wave!"

Anyone notice the title of Ellis' next book? NEXT WAVE.

I mean, 4 people all together. 4 people it was when they began playing the game in volume 1. It makes sense. Damn, I love this book.
I'm dead set against this explanation -- if one of them is really a mutant supremacist (the guy with the "Magneto Was Right" t-shirt), wouldn't it make sense that he'd play as a mutant character (Wolvie is the most obvious choice) in the MMORPG?

But perhaps he was just using the t-shirt out of irony, hehehe? Kids these days!

Or maybe he was just wearing the shirt.

And like I told PX2, that was a good catch on the number of kids. Coulda sworn I remembered 4.

Re: Runaways series discussion (spoliers)

And here we see just why House of M means **** all.

So Decimation...

Molly's a mutant right?
I'd prefer if Vaughn just happily disregards this ;)

If it *must* happen, then I hope reality is altered so drastically that a different mutant character takes Molly's place and it seems like nobody else notices. That would be hilarious. No, actually...

Let's just hope she's one of the 187 (or however many there are).

I'd rather he'd not "disregard" it and it's totally out of character for BKV to do so. The simple solution would be since Molly enjoys her powers so much, she'd get bummed after losing them. Nico uses the staff of One and gets Molly's powers back.

That's ridiculously simple, but it actually works!

Except now you get into the one HUGE problem that Vaughn has mercifully avoided, so far -- to what extent can Nico use the Staff to bend reality? If she can fix Molly, couldn't she just jump-start ALL mutants who formerly possessed the X-gene, with a single spell?

I think Vaughan is picking each of the Runaways off. Soon, there shall be none left!
