Punisher MAX (Ennis #1-60) Discussion *Spoilers*

Re: Punisher MAX Series Discussion *Spoilers*

An exaggeration, maybe. However I personally cannot think of another issue in all the comics I collect currently I'm looking more forward to reading than this series. If anything, this series has been improving with time (if that's actually possible) and #50 just blew me away. What I am continually delighted by is Barracuda's intelligence and resourcefulness and that last page just said it all.

I think you're absolutely right about it improving with time. The older marvel knights stuff seems almost immature in comparison. When I bring this comic up people go, "Oh yeah, I read 'Welcome Back, Frank' and that was fun" and I have to explain how much the comic has improved since moving to MAX. It's just incredible.

Re: Punisher MAX Series Discussion *Spoilers*

So I read #50, and I absolutely love the idea of Frank having a kid with pretty much the only woman he has cared about since his family died. And Barricuda is hard core. Awesome issue.

...except for the art. Chaykin has been doing this for a long time and even did work on one of the greatest comics ever created in Miracleman, but I just canNOT get into his work. I mean, what the **** is this:

Look at his arm. What is that?

And the faces were all terrible.

4.9/5 story, 0/5 art. Hopefully it gets better.

Maybe he's half T-Rex.

"WHAT A TWIST!"

Agreed on all fronts.

Normally Punisher MAX is better in TPB format because each arc is filled with a lot of filler that only leads to cliffhanger endings in each issue. Myself, personally, I cannot wait to read each issue.

But the story here is shaping up to be one of the finest stories Ennis has ever done on this book.

Thank The Almighty that Chaykin is only on for this issue alone. I have never seen one single book that he's ever done that has been passable for ok art. And that stubby arm is the smoking bullet that proves that he should not be dooing this for a living.

Hear me now and understand later.....I would rather have the entire series redrawn by Bachalo and printed in 90s holographic gold pages than see another page of Chaykin's work in this book.

I am that serious. For cereal.

Re: Punisher MAX Series Discussion *Spoilers*

Chaykin's art is terrible. It's too "flat" and is just really bad in design overall.

Re: Punisher MAX Series Discussion *Spoilers*

jus read 50. thnk god hes only doin the art for this one issue

Re: Punisher MAX Series Discussion *Spoilers*

The issue was great, almost everything about it.

But yeah, the art was lacking. I don't think Chaykin is terrible per se (I actually really liked that title page shot of Frank in profile), but they should've chosen someone else if they wanted to get a special artist for the 50th issue.

Like say,....Bradstreet?

Re: Punisher MAX Series Discussion *Spoilers*

Supposedly Ennis is getting ready to finish writing Frank Castle after a 7 year run on the character.

Hopefully Bradstreet will draw his final arc.

Re: Punisher MAX Series Discussion *Spoilers*

Hopefully Bradstreet will draw his final arc.

I pray to god that happens.

Also: I hope they end the title with Ennis, letting it end as one of the best series ever put out by the company rather than giving it to someone like Daniel ****ing Way who will just leave a bad taste in everyone's mouth before the book gets inevitably cancelled.

Somehow I missed Punisher last week, and I already ordered this week's comics... so somebody remind me in a week to pick this guy up.

Re: Punisher MAX Series Discussion *Spoilers*

Last I read, Mike Benson (Entourage creator) was going to take over on MAX when Ennis leaves. Hmmmm....

Who's probably UC member Walter Hill.

Since I saw him on like four different boards pimping the Punisher MAX Annual and never posting again.

Re: Punisher MAX Series Discussion *Spoilers*

Anybody have any idea when the next hardcover is coming out?

It feels like it's been forever.

We've only got the first 24 MAX issues in hardcover, and they're already over fifty in the floppies.

Re: Punisher MAX Series Discussion *Spoilers*

I have the one shots HC. Ugh, it's sticks out like a sore thumb.
