I've been thinking a lot about the future of the Wii.
Today, I parted with my Gamecube. Surprisingly, I got a decent amount for it, but that's besides the point... When I traded it in, I felt no remorse for it being gone... Whereas if I traded in my PS2, I would've been reluctant. The Gamecube was never anything special. It had a couple of good games here and there, but nothing to draw people to it over the X-Box or PS2, you know? Even Best Buy, at one point, stopped carrying Gamecube games altogether (at least where I am from).
Now, we've got the Wii...
The launch titles are nothing to get excited over. We've got Zelda and Sports, probably one of the best games I've ever played (end of story) but nothing else that is actually worth it. Red Steel has too many flaws and the other games all seem to childish for me or are games that didn't seem like they had a lot of thought put in them.
I refuse to judge the whole of the Wii on the launch titles, though. The novelty of having to get into the games is great... I like that feature a whole lot. The controls are more natural than anyone would have imagined... And from what I've seen, the Wii is raining on the PS3's parade... Which is great. I hope that the Wii continues to do well... Well enough that it won't disappear before the idea of the next Nintendo system is conceived.
I am not disappointed that I got the Wii by any means... If this post sounds like it, you're wrong. I just think the Wii is coming off the heels of a very poor system and, as a result, may be in jeopardy. Granted, I DO understand the innovation of the new remote and "next generation" tag will help it, but when we're all used to having new systems and stuff, where will the Wii fall?
Hmm...
