Either way, why would he not have just said "Spider-Man is the only hero capable of crossing franchises"? The MCU has been running for 12 years, he knows what he's saying. Universe ≠ franchise.

Because the Marvel Cinematic Universe films have a very particular goal in mind, and he wanted to separate the Sony films from people thinking that they will influence it.

He has never said he wants to keep the Netflix shows separate nor has he ever indicated he doesn't want them to influence his goal, whereas here he clearly felt the need to mention it.

Well, he doesn't have to. The Netflix shows are smaller scale and less known to the public so he'd have no reason to even mention them like he would will a high budget film.

He doesn't have creative control on either item so of cause they aren't in his plan.

At the end of the day, we'll have to wait for the film to be out to see how it all fits.
Then again, all MCU products are named "Marvel's ..." I don't believe Morbius has that.

The cancelled animated shows for Hulu had "Marvel" in it, they're not in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Eh, still, Morbius will have the "In association with Marvel" banner and not the Marvel Studios or regular Marvel banner.
 
Yeah, it's pretty clear he's wanting to distance himself from what Sony is doing. If it isn't from Marvel Studios or Marvel Television then it isn't in the MCU. Simple as that. The only reason Sony is probably able to do stuff related to the MCU Spider-Man is so he can remain a part of the MCU. What sucks is that general audiences are going to completely buy that these movies are a part of the MCU, which is exactly what Sony wants. It would be different if Sony was the sole producer on the Holland Spider-Man films or if Marvel Studios had some role with the SUCM but as is it's a mess.

If true, then yeah, I'd agree to put it on the timeline. Them fixing the
Spider-Man grafitti to the Homecoming suit
does give me some hope Sony won't completely screw this up.

Even if this is true, I still don't think it's right to consider these movies a part of the MCU. It's still just Sony lazily piggybacking off the MCU's success. Now if these movies are at some point referenced outside the Sony films, then sadly sure. But as is, I think it'd be better to keep the SUCM as a separate but similar universe. Marvel Television is a different story given that Disney/ABC is still behind it and unlike Sony, they have the right to dictate canon.

Yeah, I think bracketing them with a [SUMC] similar to how the different Earths are done with the DC-CW Timeline would be a good idea. Showing that they're separate while also satisfying those who believe they are a part of the MCU and vice versa.

The next Spider-Man movie or maybe even Doctor Strange 2 should settle the debate. When it was said SM could cross cinematic universes, it's either implied that they really are separate and it is a multiverse, or that they are in the same universe but do not cross over. Either way im personally not keen on Sony being able to just freely add whatever they want to the canon given past films.
