I don't think he's going to have a choice, to be honest. Sony will most likely make it a two-way reference with the Spider-Man films.

Remember it's not a Marvel Cinematic Universe film, just a film that happens to be connected.

If Keaton actually is Adrian Toomes in Morbius, I'd consider it a MCU movie. Right now, I honestly wouldn't put it past Sony to cast him to make people think he is Vulture.

My 2 cents (head canon) on the Raimi suit being in the film:

For it to make sense in-universe you have to look at it from an artists perspective. To the artist who made the graffiti and wrote murderer on it, it's their artistic take on their local hero. Just like how people try to draw heroes in different ways in our own world, someone in the MCU NYC, painted spider-man on that wall with a suit they thought would be cool to see their hero in.
 
Not entirely official, so it's not canon, but this seems like a case closed.

If it's referenced by Spider-Man films, sequels to Homecoming produced by Sony, it's canon by extension. If it were only the Sony universe films, it wouldn't necessarily be.

So Spider-Man: Homecoming 3 will be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Sony's Universe of Marvel Characters simultaneously, linking the worlds to create one world where J. Jonah Jameson could complain about Vampires, creatures in San Francisco, the Devil of Hell's Kitchen (in theory?), the Hulk and his favourite arch enemy, Parker... but only in Spider-Man films.

Unless the Spider-Man films are canon to both universes, where certain events and characters from one are canon to the other but they don't same the same universe, in which case I'm going to hate doing that as a timeline.

If the Sony films are going to have the kind of one-way connection the TV shows had, I guess I can live with that. They can be ignored if they suck.

That's not exactly what it claims.

Sony films reference Spider-Man.

Spider-Man reference Sony and Marvel Studios.

Marvel Studios reference Spider-Man.

This, by extension, would indicate that it's canon, but only through Spider-Man.
 
Updated with Black Widow: Prelude #1. The footage from Winter Soldier would indicate Project Insight is launched on April 4, 2014, but I'm keeping it in January 2014 because of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Launched or fully operational by April 4, 2014? Maybe it took some time for it to completely go into effect.
That's how I would read between the lines.

The beginning of the prelude shows footage of Black Widow in the scene in TWS where she reveals herself after impersonating Hawley. The footage is dated 04/04/14.

I wouldn't say they're being lazy. I doubt Marvel Studios takes any of the A.o.S. evidence into account and to them, The Winter Soldier has always taken place around its release date.

Agree with Pro. Why? If the Spidey films reference the Sony films, they are ironically more canon than even the Netflix shows or AoS because they got acknowledged.

Those got acknowledged too, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. by Avengers: Endgame, through Agent Carter, and WHiH Newsfront while Netflix through Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but I get your point.

Theres that the Sony films make more meaningful connections though.
