Harry Potter Discussion (spoilers)

I read Philosopher's Stone in a single day once, it was like the 5th time I read it.

I've only read each one once, and I haven't read the Sorcerer's Stone in almost 7 years. I think I will start reading it tomorrow.

I want to read it tonight but I'm stuck at stupid work and it's at my mom's house.

I am incapable of re-reading a novel. I just find it too tiresome.

I'm most likely just going to find a good summary of the first six books online in order to refresh my knowledge before the new book comes out.

Is Half-Blood Prince the first novel to end with a dnagling plot thread (R.A.B. and the locket)? All the others seemed to be pretty self-contained, with the Voldemort subplot continuing on. This one didn't seem to have any type of actual story at all, though, and so no real conclusion.

Is this R.A.B. someone we've met already?

Rowling said that HBP and Deathly Hallows was actually one, big story. Hence the dangling plot thread.

While it's not confirmed, the likely suspect is Regulus Black, Sirius' younger brother.

The first time I read the book, after that part I sat and thought for literally 30 seconds before I remembered Regulus and figured it must be him. Is Rowling slipping, or are us readers getting wiser to her schemes?

I really, really hope that's not a huge mystery that gets dragged out and dramatically revealed towards the end of the book... it's far too obvious.

I doubt it. I'm pretty sure she wanted us to figure that out pretty quickly.

Now you're just trying to make me feel dumb!

Not at all. I just don't think it's that big of a mystery. If you think of Voldemort's known followers, then think of people who could possibly have the initials "RAB", it's a logical conclusion.

I think the mystery is where the locket is. A large locket they couldn't open was mentioned when they were cleaning out the Black house (someone else pointed this out to me). I also read elsewhere the theory that the A is for Arcturus.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the locket at Grimmauld Place is the same locket. . .

Oh, dammit. Now, that "spoiler" page that I saw might be real. . .

Don't worry about those spoilers. They've been denounced as a hoax.
As is, any Harry Potter fan could write 'spoilers' that would be reposted and believed by many, using just common knowledge from reading the books.

I just completed my second read of The Half-Blood Prince, the first in two years. I usually finish each new book in within a day of buying it, and re-reads have proven most beneficial.

I still think that Half-Blood Prince is up there with Prisoner of Azkaban as the best single book of the series.

I started rereading Sorcerer's Stone today. I was shocked to see Hagrid namecheck Sirius Black in the first chapter. Is that in the original version? I'd hate to think it was added later, but if it wasn't. . . wow. That's impressive foresight.

Yeah, it was. I have the original edition(the one with the bizarrely young picture of Dumbledore on the back).

She probably added it later, before the first book was published but after she'd started writing the second and third.

warms my heart when the kids run down the driveway
"yay my harry potter book!! thank you mr postman"

That's reassuring. I couldn't find my old copy after about an hour of digging in my mom's garage so I just bought a new one.

I have no idea what you're talking about, but it comes out in one week.

Except in Wales, when it comes out never.

usually shipments of anything in wales are intercepted by Welsh land pirates!
the Prince of Wales, he is powerless! and as we have a dragon on our countries flag........nobody will come to rescue us for fear of becoming human crack for the dragon to smoke on

SHe's stated she's had most of the detail written before hand for the major plots. She obvioulsy knew the Siruis Black was going to be in the later ones, and dropped his name. She does this an amazing amount of times in the book.

Deathly Hallows? I think 784, which makes it the second longest book.

784 minus about 20 pages, for that number includes the table of contents, the blank pages at the end, and all that other good stuff.

I don't like how the Table of Contents are at the beginning of the Harry Potter books. I'm pretty sure 99% of the readers avoid those three pages like the plague, even if the titles are only vague indications of what could happen.
