Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

I hope not. He's a wonderful actor but I wouldn't want to see him as Slughorn(although I suppose he'd be good if they did a different take on the character from how I'd imagined him).

I see he's going to be in a new version of A Christmas Carol starring Jim Carrey as Scrooge, bringing the grand total of remakes to 482.

I wonder who they'll get to play Professor Slughorn in the next movie? He's another character who I have a perfect picture of, I'd hate to see him ruined.

Jim Broadbent, I hope. I see him much like Broadbent in Moulin Rouge.

Oh. My. God.

Joe Kalicki, you just stole EXACTLY -- basically PRECISELY word for word -- what I was going to say.

I am very freaked out right now.

But onto my movie thoughts:

2nd best Potter film (after PoA). I absolutely loved every moment of it, from beginning to end. I can't believe it's being reviewed as the weakest of the five. I saw it in IMAX 3-D last night at midnight, and the after-excitement has been such that I just couldn't fall asleep. Imelda Staunton and Evanna Lynch just owned this movie. I'm officially in love with both Lynch AND Watson (despite her inability to act even after 7 years in the business). I'm so, SO glad that Yates is on for Half-Blood Prince. (But I still wish Cuaron would return for Deathly Hallows.) I'll post more of my thoughts later, but for now, here are my rankings, with a GoF grade-change.

The Harry Potter Films
1. Prisoner of Azkaban A
2. Order of the Phoenix A-
3. Goblet of Fire B+
4. Sorceror's Stone B-
5. Chamber of Secrets C+

:D

It's funny, but the only characters that I changed my vision of after seeing the movies were Lucius and Draco Malfoy, Snape, Hagrid and Sirius. Everyone else I kept my mental image of.

As for Slughorn, I can totally see Kevin McNally or Bob Hoskins. Jim Broadbent. . .not so much.

I should post drawings of how I originally pictured a lot of the characters before the films.... some were so hilariously different from the descriptions for no reason at all. I pictured Snape looking like a male version of the evil queen from Snow White(in her hag form). Don't ask me about that one.:?

*puts on djf's box office hat*

OotP broke records yesterday, debuting to $44.2 million, making it the biggest Wednesday ever and the fifth biggest opening day ever. It also made $12 million dollars just from the midnight showings alone, which is a number higher than that of Transformer's 8pm-12am premiere, which made only 9 million dollars despite being out for more hours.

By Sunday, the movie should be somewhere around $150 million or higher.

I'll just say, about casting, I cannot see for the life of me why their first choice for Snape was Tim Roth when Rickman is so perfect.

Also, during this entire a movie I had a smile on my face. It was like visiting old friends. So even if it had major flaws, they passed me by and I didn't care.

It probably helps that's it's the first one I've seen in the theater since Chamber of Secrets.

Yeah, Rickman really is perfect. I also think his humorous ******* portrayal is forshadowing which way Snape is going to go in the end, as he, supposedly, knows more about his character than any other actor/actress in the movies.

As for enjoying the flawed movies, it's all about preference. I, unfortunately, nitpick. I think I just see the books as vastly superior, so it's a personal problem. Quite a few who don't read the books really enjoy them, and there are some who DO read the books and just enjoy the movies for what they are. I think I nitpick because I think the movies could be so much more, but, again, it's all personal preference.

You're right, there are two diametrically opposed ways to view the movies as fans of the books, and we both go in different directions.

Although I think everyone agrees in the end that the books are vastly superior.

Saw it tonight. Best one yet.

My main problem with the Harry Potter movies is that I can't rewatch them. If I sit down and try to rewatch them (especially the earlier ones) they're so corny and unbearable. I can't watch them.

I think this one might have broken the trend. The book made me lose interest in the Harry Potter universe, mainly because it was extremely long for so little information... and I got sick of Harry whining all the ****ing time. Luckily, the movie sort of cut down on this (though most of his scenes were him *****ing). It was a good movie though.

Oh, and the Dumbledore/Voldemort battle scene was the best part. Finally we get some decent magic.

*is happy that Proj enjoyed it*

:D

It is the best one ever.

4 was my favorite book but the movie felt lacking a little.

But 5 was so good. The new side character are the best. I adored Luna.

I was disappointed there wasn't more Tonks. She was hot. I also enjoyed Beatrix.

Very great stuff.

And the end was the fight scenes, I wanted to see.

Dumbledore vs Voldemort was so awesome.

saw it a second time tonite. It was much better this time.

I love the subtlety of the dialogue during the fights, like when Sirius shouts out "Good one, James!" after harry casts a good spell- as if he was fighting with his old friend- and dumbledore calling voldemort "tom" (for tom riddle)

Dumbledore vs Voldemort was so awesome.

I was actually a little dissapointed in it, but for a reason.

When the Order is fighting the Death Eaters, they're turning into wisps of smoke and blasting each other. Yet, Dumbledore and Voldemort don't really do this. Yet, in the book, it made it very clear that they constantly Apparated while the Order and Death Eaters didn't.

About to go see this! Soooo excited!

Also, my parents got me my Xbox 360 today and got the Order of the Phoenix game with it. I'm waiting until after I see the movie to play it, but it looks so terrific. I read the manual and in this one you actually get to do different, complex controller movements for each spell, based on the way they use the wands.
