Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

I guess I'm the only one who hates the Harry Potter movies. Shame.

Actually, I find Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of Fire unbearable. Chamber and Sorcerer's are watchable, but I wouldn't place them at the top of my favorite movies list. The two work as far as loyalty to their source , but that's about it.

Emma Watson and Bonnie Wright make the films worth a single viewing, though.

Agreed.

I saw OotP tonight. It was. . .alright. And that's being generous. Obviously, huge swaths of the book were completely cut out, and, just like in Goblet, everything seemed far too rushed. And certain important characters, like Tonks and Lupin, were completely relegated to the background.

The worst thing, however, was the change of certain plot points. The most notable being the "relationship" between Harry and Cho. I won't spoil it, but its completely different.

Snape, Lucius Malfoy and Umbridge were the best part of the movie, by far. Voldemort and Dumbledore were both far better in this movie than the previous movies.

Anyways, if you like the movies for what they are, you'll probably enjoy it. If you're a book purist, like me, you're going to wonder where half the book went, and why they changed a lot.

The final scene with Voldemort and Dumbledore was worth the movie. A lot else was good.

What's up with Voldemort at the train station? Is it just another dream?

Very likely. I can't remember any scene like that in the books, and the crew of the film arn't allowed to deviate from the source material that much (to my knowledge).

And I must amend my earlier statement- Ralph Fiennes as Voldemort, Bonnie Wright, and Emma Watson are the only worthwhile elements of these films.

I can't stand Michael Gambon as Dumbledore.

Gambon as Dumbledore would be soooooo much better if he dressed like Richard Harris did. He looks like a peddler. There's nothing wrong with Gambon's acting at all, but the way they've made his look is awful.

I just hope Ralph Fiennes is a lot better in this one. I've still yet to be convinced he wasn't miscast.

DAVID BOWIE FTW!

Harry Potter fans are the most obnoxious group of people to sit through a movie with. They laughed like idiots at the most inappropriate times and wouldn't stop like they were all high or something it almost completely runined the movie experience for me.

The movie itself was kickass. I haven't read the books but my roommate did and she said there was a few things they took liberties with. I had fun though. I love most of the actors in this. Rickman, Fiennes, Helena Bonham Carter, Isaacs, Oldman were all extremely satisfying. There were a lot of disturbing elements that got me all emotionally revved up. Harry Potter takes a lot of abuse from people. It bothered me throughout most of the film that he was the boy wonder and he'd always end up in trouble because no one was watching his back but in this one it seems like people finally got the gist of things and it was plausible (with him being the only one to witness the murder of Cedric) that people doubted him.

All around I thought it was a great film.

Sounds like the book with the mood of everyone against Potter

I like that

the first half was pretty ugly and not fun to watch, but once they got to hogwarts and things started moving there (probably around when Snape began to speak) things got GREAT.

I dug it a lot. Maybe not as good as the last two, but different and exciting, and better than the first two. I like the more realistic take on the kids and the way they act, and the first two were just very arificial.

None of the changes bothered me at all.

Gambon is definately the weak link in these movies though. He looks better than Harris, but his Dumbledore is so off from what I read it's crazy.

Yeah, the Dumbledore in the movies is always grumpy. It annoys me.

That's why I wish that the movies weren't made until the books were finished. I'd prefer to imagine my own versions of the characters when reading, but now I'm stuck with the image of the characters in the movies. I don't like that.

I didn't like Harris at all. He was too old and frail. I always picture Dumbledore as much more robust. physically, Gambon is almost exactly how I've always seen Dumbledore. He just doesn't resemble the character in any other way.

I know what you mean. It doesn't bother me for some of the characters, who's movie-images I prefer, like Malfoy, Snape, Filch, Sprout, Dumbledore, Sirius, etc., but it did pain me to lose some of the pictures I had.

Then again, I still picture Trelawny and Voldemort exactly the way I originally did, especially the latter, because Fiennes just doesn't make any sense to me. Among other things, he's just to young for me to seriously picture like that.

I wonder who they'll get to play Professor Slughorn in the next movie? He's another character who I have a perfect picture of, I'd hate to see him ruined.
