Countdown Series Discussion (SPOILERS!)

This book frustrates the hell out of me. A lot of the dialogue is well-paced and generally well written, and then some of it is so unbelievably bad it makes my brain bleed. The Jimmy Olsen storyline is managed pretty well so far, but the Jason Todd subplot has sucked ***. Hopefully the new Atom jumping onboard with Todd will make him interesting. The Black Adam reveal was pretty alright too.

Edit: The multiverse history is going to be followed up by the origins of DC villains, Ninja.

OK... despite what I've said before, Countdown is starting to grow on me (just read #49). I don't understand Jimmy Olsen's sudden Plastic-Man power... nor do I understand how Black Adam got his power back after being stripped of it in World War III. However, the storylines included aren't pissing me off like a lot of them in 52 did... so it's an improvement.

Silver Age Jimmy used to take on a number of different aliases, including Elastic Lad where he took a serum that game him stretchy powers. He was a reserve member of the Legion of Super-Heroes in that incarnation and was used in Alan Moore's Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow story. Its not totaly out of left field.

Now what was out of left field was when Jimmy was talking to Lois on the phone. I think they're waaaay too open on the whole Secret ID thing. Especially for characters outside of their normal group.

Better than the last issue but I don't know if I'm going to keep up with this. Maybe just the Atom issues.

I don't think there was anything to indicate Adam got his powers back. It's far creepier if he ripped those people apart without any powers.

I seem to be the only person who's really enjoying it so far... I mean, its far from the greatest writing ever, but honestly I think its out to a more cohesive start than 52 had, the main advantage being that Dini knows whats going on and how this is all going to end... Its not like 52 where at week 26 they decide something that changes the entire plot of the series... Or even the purpose of it.

There is a tone to these first issues indicative of where the series is headed... Something big is coming, it involves Darkseid, but I get the feeling it's bigger than Darkseid.

Anybody point out yet that the Week 41 cover has the Anti-Monitor's guantlet on it? I'm pretty sure thats what's going on, at least.

And finally, its pretty obvious that this is the series that is going to redeem Jason Todd as a hero. I hope they do it without killing him, because I like the weird connection between all the Robins, and honestly I want to see Robin, Nightwing, and the Red Hood to take on some big baddy together...

Actually, I have an idea for something along the lines of a Kingdom Come for the modern generation of heroes... Something where

Except my original idea was that Jason Todd would become the new Question... Maybe I'll make a thread about that, but I hesitate, because its something I honestly want to write someday. We'll see.

I'm with you. I'm really enjoying it.

And in the back it said that the Black Adam mini starts where he was left in 52 and ends where he is in Countdown.

New DC Flash/Countdown teaser… no text or additional information provided other than this…

"THE COUNTDOWN CONTINUES IN FLASH #13"

Son of a *****.

What did you guys think of the new issue?

Olsen seems to be experiencing different powers he had though the years.

I liked the Jason-Donna scene.

I still don't like how everyone knows Jason Todd.

So Black Adam is crazy now? I hope he doesn't come back as just another villain for the Marvel family.

It was a good issue, I'm really interested in Jason Todd storyline.

This was my least favorite issue so far. The art was awful.

If it wasn't for the Legion connections (three Legion books this week!) I might think about dropping this. Although I love the idea of a weekly book giving an overview of the DCU as a whole.

Y'know what? I've made my peace with Countdown. I wasn't sure what it was supposed to be for a while. Everyone was throwing around the TV and summer blockbuster analogies, but it's not like DC: The Movie and it's not like the animated universe in comics. It's like a TV drama - not one of the hip mystery shows, but, like, the kind of thing Aaron Spelling would direct. And looked at through that lens, it's very enjoyable. I think the writing's getting better too.

Besides, when you realize Jason Todd is just Luke Perry, he makes a lot more sense.

what, nothing about the new issue yet? allrighty then. i'll start.

OMG!!1 i can't believe Mary got Black Adam's powers... just like it showed on the..cover. 2 weeks in a row now the issues' main surprise has been completely deflated. the trickster's and piper's scene was nice.

I'm just glad that he is not as insane as I thought. I hope they show him depowered through Countdown. Also, Pied Piper = AWESOME.
