Bruce Timm Universe Adoration Thread

I am really tempted to download all of JLU and watch it again...

Well, no.
We see Andrea on the boat after the whole debacle with the Joker, so she lived. I always felt, from her tone and from the fact that we saw nothing, that she couldn't bring herself to kill Joker. This resonates with EPILOGUE in JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED.

I don't recall that. I should watch it again

"Superman/Batman"....was that even a movie or just a 3-part episode?

It was released as a movie, but it was actually just the 'Worlds Finest' three-parter from STAS.

What I can't wait for is a no-holds-barred Timmverse Batman movie in the tradition of Superman: Doomsday, maybe adapted from The Long Halloween or the whole Long Halloween-Dark Victory saga.

But only if Kevin and Mark and Efrem are still doing the voices.

I don't think they'll keep Conroy, purely on the basis that they recasted Batman for JLA: New Frontier. But you never know.

Originally posted by Victor Von Doom: Conroy's voice is the most perfect Batman/Bruce Wayne in the history of ever. Now I had long been of this opinion for some time now...but I was watching "Justice League - Season2" over the weekend and there was that episode "Maid of Honor" (where Wonder Woman is playing babysitter/bodyguard to the princess of Kasnia). Well there's a part in that episode where Batman foils a robbery and interogates a criminal. The criminal says "You can't understand a thing I'm saying....and even if you could I wouldn't talk!".

Batman's repsonse? "I can........and you will."

The most perfect response and threatening voice level I've ever heard. It was right there that he could've just said "I'm the God**** Batman!" and I would've agreed. Conroy was simply perfect.

Although I love Conroy in the animated series and he has a brilliant Batman voice, I tend to think that his voice sounds a little bit over-the-top sometimes and I think Batman in a live-action movie with a voice like that would sound kind of silly.

Although you may be right, I think if there's a single pair of exceptions in the entire DCAU, it's Kevin and Mark. As you know, they even got them to voice Batman and the Joker in the storyboard-animatic for the deleted Robin sequence on the Batman '89 DVD.

Yeah.... the Eurotrip is off.

:p

Anyway, I've been watching B:TAS from the start today, and I'd almost forgotten how hardcore those first episodes are. The effort in the animation of the action sequences in "On Leather Wings", "Christmas with the Joker"(second funniest episode ever) and "Nothing to Fear" is just incredible, and the music strikes that perfect balance between the amount of Elfman's themes and Shirley Walker's one.

Also, "P.O.V." is easily one of the best episodes of any animated show ever. It's like the Axis Chemicals sequence streched out to 21 minutes.

Annnnnnnd, I just watched Mask of the Phantasm for the first time in a year or two.

It's so beautiful.
It is.

And what's amazing is how non-linear and flashback-ridden it is.

Most producers would just say, "Don't do that, it confuses people."

The New Batman Superman Adventures still has the best opening music in the entire Timmverse.

I'd still put the choiral/full-orchestral arrangement of Shirley Walker's Batman theme slightly ahead of it, but it's all close.

Shirley Walker is undoubtedly the greatest superhero composer of all time. John William's Superman theme may top most of her pieces individually, but overall, there's just no contest. The B:TAS/MOTP main themes, all the B:TAS episode soundtracks including the Joker's tune, the S:TAS theme, the New Batman Superman Adventures opening, the Justice League themes and scoring. She's a legend.

Were you aware that she passed away recently? :(

Also, she wasn't singlehandedly responsible for the entirety of Batman: The Animated Series' music. Among the many names responsible for the music behind that show were Michael McCuiston, Lolita Ritmanis and Kristopher Carter --- the composing crew behind Justice League Unlimited. A full list of credits, broken down by episode is listed here: http://www.toonzone.net/anbat/btas/filmography.html

You can also download every single opening title card cue from Batman TAS here: http://www.toonzone.net/anbat/music/index.html

Yeah, I think I might have been the one who broke the news on UC, actually.

Ah, I figured there was probably more to them than just her. Looks like Boyd Kirkland in particular deserves a handful of kudos for those awesome scores.

Odd that I don't see a credit for "Time Out Of Joint" there, though. That's one of my favourite scores.

Oh man, how have I not seen this before?

While we're on the subject, does anyone other than me here have the book Batman: Animated by Paul Dini and Chip Kidd?

It's a very detailed history of the process behind getting the series going, its successs, it's legacy, and everything in between, and is also the most awesome thing ever. It's extremely colourful and funny and chock full of great anecdotes and funny Bruce Timm sketches from around the office that you won't find anywhere else. VERY highly recommended for any B:TAS/Timmverse fans.

I have that book because its brilliant.

*sigh*

My evening is done now isn't it? I'm just going to be watching BATMAN: TAS all night.

Well, since Famke Janssen isn't returning my calls, I can't think of a better way to spend it! :D

I broke it.

Well, it didn't break. It fell apart due to... um... dampness.

It's Famke Janssen's fault!

Her Superman theme is so-so, it perfectly reflects how boring and dull the DCAU version of the character was. Her Batman theme is iconic and definitive however, and everytime I watch an episode, it enrages me to hear Danny Elfman's theme in the opening and closing credits (and as incidental music in some of the earlier episodes).

I liked her Justice League themes but at the same time, the JLU theme was a refreshing change.

Yep. This is what I keep telling myself. Everyday, I pray harder that they'll bring Kev and Mark in for a Dark Knight Returns DTV with complete redesigns of everything. Everyday.

Yeah.... the Eurotrip is off.

I watched ROTJ and JLU: Epilogue today. I eat my words. With a side of fries. Kevin Conroy is voice-acting God.

I just found some pretty good online comics set in the DCAU. It's by the world's finest people. It's the best site I've found for DCAU information. It's message board is pretty crappy. I don't understand why there aren't more communities like the UC.

Cool site.

As for other web communities, they just don't attract posters of the same caliber as us.
