Bruce Timm Universe Adoration Thread

how does everyone rank the batman TAS movies? (including the batwoman one if it counts)

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm 10/10

Batman & Mr. Freeze: Sub-Zero 7/10 (I give it 7 and not 6, purely because of the inspired 1950s look and sound it had throughout)

Batman/Superman: The Movie 8/10 (Good fun. Slightly mediocre in places.)

Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker
8.5/10 (Dark and sleek, but still a bit lame).

Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman
7.5/10 (Good clean fun).

I'd give Mask of the Phantasm a 9.5 out of 10 because
the Phantasm just vanishes with the Joker and it never explains what happened to him or why he wasn't brutally murdered like the other hitmen.

But everything that happened with Bruce Wayne made up for it.

Here is my rating

Batman: Mask of the Phantasm 9/10

Batman/Superman: The Movie 8.5/10

Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker 9/10

Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman 8.5/10

Then let this be our final battle.

For giant monkey woman loving...I'll fight dirty. I'm a biter.

Timm's movies are just so awesome that even the lamest film like "Mystery of the Batwoman" still makes stuff like "Ultimate Avengers" "Invincible Iron Man" and everything Marvel has done look like a 4th grade flip book.

"Mask of the Phantasm" is about as close to "animated perfection of the non-Disney variety" as you're gonna get. Everything about is was just perfect.

"Sub-Zero" was a pretty decent follow-up. Not perfect...but still far better than a lot of other crap.

"Superman/Batman"....was that even a movie or just a 3-part episode? It's still pretty decent. Not excellent....but it quenches my superhero/animated team up thirst.

"Return of the Joker" was a lot better than I thought. The smooth animation made up for the generic story.

I pretty much agree with Doom's raitings.

What I can't wait for is a no-holds-barred Timmverse Batman movie in the tradition of Superman: Doomsday, maybe adapted from The Long Halloween or the whole Long Halloween-Dark Victory saga.

...

But only if Kevin and Mark and Efrem are still doing the voices.

One thing i loved from return of the joker was how they pointed out the diferences of terry and timm.

My favorite Of terry's villains had to be Inque.

Agreed.

It brings me back to something I said before in another thread....

Conroy's voice is the most perfect Batman/Bruce Wayne in the history of ever. Now I had long been of this opinion for some time now...but I was watching "Justice League - Season2" over the weekend and there was that episode "Maid of Honor" (where Wonder Woman is playing babysitter/bodyguard to the princess of Kasnia). Well there's a part in that episode where Batman foils a robbery and interogates a criminal. The criminal says "You can't understand a thing I'm saying....and even if you could I wouldn't talk!".

Batman's repsonse? "I can........and you will."

The most perfect response and threatening voice level I've ever heard. It was right there that he could've just said "I'm the God**** Batman!" and I would've agreed. Conroy was simply perfect.

Too see another full out Timm movie with this badass Batman would be nothing short of orgasmic.

Conroy is the best Batman.

"Can someone catch me, because I can't fly. ...At all."
I believe the correct quote is:

"Batman to all points, I could use some air support... since I can't fly... at all....

...

Now would be good."

I swear to God that that is evidence of Warren Ellis' writing.

It's so signaturely him.

That stall speech is in everything he does.

It is.

Also, I'm convinced that making Ray Palmer a little curmudgeonly and giving him a sexy glasses wearing assistant was also an Ellis thing.

"He's bigger than my car now, Katie. Personally, I blame you."

"How can it possibly be my fault?"

"Because otherwise it would be my fault. That can't be right, I'm a professor."

Also:

"I'm going to lay here for awhile, Katie. I'm old now and I get tired."

It's like one of my favorite episodes ever. Who else would write in the script that Ray Palmer needs to rest between Wonder Woman's bussom?

Yeah, the plot's pretty basic but it's all those tiny details. I mean the sexy assistant wouldn't really register unless you're really into Ellis's stuff. Even the treatment of Eiling reeks of Ellis.
"...it turns out that the Justice League has had a secret space-based weapon of mass destruction all along... and we're going to be talking about that someday, believe me."

Also, I heard Ellis' favorite snippet of that episode is when Vigilante runs up to Shining Knight and gets on his horse while they fight the nanocyber-dogs. The music in those four seconds is great.

Professor Ray Palmer: "Amazing.

Show him a weapon that destroyed its creators and everything it saw... and he wants to play with it.

What's to stop history from repeating itself right here on Earth?"

Superman: "We are."

That exchange might as well have come right out of Planetary or Global Frequency.

"Hey you got Ellis in my Timm!"

"You got Timm in my Ellis!"

Truly, two great tastes that taste great together.

I haven't gotten around to getting the JLU seasons yet(they'll be on my Christmas list) but I recently found out that John C. McGinley was the voice of the Atom.

I wasn't a Scrubs fan back when those episodes aired but can't wait to see them again now.

I'd give Mask of the Phantasm a 9.5 out of 10 because
the Phantasm just vanishes with the Joker and it never explains what happened to him or why he wasn't brutally murdered like the other hitmen.

I think it's no different to seeing The Riddler be left in a VR coma in WHAT IS REALITY? only to have him back again in RIDDLER'S REFORM with no explanation. Keeps it open to new viewers.

For giant monkey woman loving...I'll fight dirty. I'm a biter.

Giant monkey woman loving is dirty. For it, I do things that makes dirty look clean.

I want Giganta.

THE MASK OF THE PHANTASM is a far better version of BATMAN BEGINS.

Conroy is the best Batman.

 Conroy is the best Batman, I agree.

It completely is Ellis.

It is.

There you go.

Also, from GLOBAL FREQUENCY:

"You're very, very under arrest."

That exchange might as well have come right out of Planetary or Global Frequency.

I miss those. :(

It was suppose to implied
she and Joker died
because they thought the show was close to cancellation, but as the series continued they brought him back. That's fine with me, it leaves me guessing how it happens.

Well, no.
We see Andrea on the boat after the whole debacle with the Joker, so she lived. I always felt, from her tone and from the fact that we saw nothing, that she couldn't bring herself to kill Joker. This resonates with EPILOGUE in JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED.

since this is over now (i think) besides dvds wouldn't it be best for a mod or someone to put *spoilers* in title so we don't need
this
