Astonishing X-Men discussion (spoilers)

Re: Astonishing X-Men - series discussion (spoilers)

I'd have to say one thing Whedon's doing excellently is building suspense for the final issues. I've already got goose bumps thinking about the last issue.

Re: Astonishing X-Men - series discussion (spoilers)

I hate Whedon.

I hate him for making me love this book. For making the only X book (aside from New X-Men and XFactor) actually worth reading.

I hate him for leaving this book.

I hate him for not calling me back after the one night in the ski cabin in Colorado.

Brubaker is owning on Uncanny and Carey's doing a good job with X-Men.

I seriously might have to bite the bullet on Uncanny and just press on. I dropped the book about 4 issues into his arc. I just couldn't bring myself to care.

I tried with Carey....but cared even less. But just this last week I saw that Ramos is doing the art now....so I thought I'd pick it up----but then I decided against it.

Re: Astonishing X-Men - series discussion (spoilers)

The latest issue of X-Men was bollocks.

I still like Uncanny a lot though.

Re: Astonishing X-Men - series discussion (spoilers)

As of issue 18 of Astonishing X-Men, I'm just wondering which one of them will die (or wont be coming back). I dont think whedon has the balls to kill off one of them. I mean all the characters of the team are damn near iconic. He's probably just talking about someone staying with SWORD. It's probably just gonna be lockheed.

From a Liveworld.net:

I know I can't expect you to name names but is it true that the next Astonishing X-Men writer was at the summit?

Again, I can't confirm or deny that but there was somebody at the conference who is a writer, is not currently writing any of the X-books, and is gonna have a role. I can't say more than that, sorry.
Blast you Caaaaaaaareeeeeeeeeey!!!

Who were the writers at the conference?

My Mark Millar theory is looking better and better, but only if it turns out he was there. My other blind theory would be Greg Pak.

Pak is writing "Warsong" right now. I don't really know if that counts.....but if he does take over---consider Astonishing done.

Beacuse Warsong sucks.

Re: Astonishing X-Men - series discussion (spoilers)

Ed Brubaker, Craig Kyle & Chris Yost, Peter David, and Mike Carey were the ones at the conference because it was mainly dealing with the upcoming X-Event later this year.

Maybe it's Brubaker and he has some kind of consulting role; maybe it spins out of his current Shiar story.

I'd almost bet on Millar. The book is too big to put any of those guys on it (Except maybe Brubaker, but as much as I liked Deadly Genesis, I don't think it would fit on Astonishing - Millar absolutely would).

Re: Astonishing X-Men - series discussion (spoilers)

Ice emailed this to me:

"Astonishing X-Men #20 was not solicited nor talked about, but Marvel.com sure has the cover to it (in wallpaper) and the release date of February 14, 2007.

He grows into a giant and crushes the planet in his hands? Kind of anticlimactic.

It's a visual metaphor. Duh. :p

After reading Planet Hulk, I'd say Pak wouldn't fit well with the book, but I could see him being picked.

At this point I'm going to be seriously disappointed if it's not Millar. He's a great writer and the only one I'd say is fit to tackle a book like Astonishing.

Brubaker would be awesome too, but I don't think he'd quite fit the book. The complexity and pace of the book is quite different than Uncanny.

Re: Astonishing X-Men - series discussion (spoilers)

Picked up Vol. 3 "Torn". As good as that story is (Whedon's best so far and one of the best X-men stories I've ever read) it reads even better collected.

The only thing I didn't understand is what Cassandra Nova had to wait for before she could reclaim her body (or mind?). She told Emma she had to wait, but I didn't get what for.
