All About Movies Thread: 8 Tweets & a Funeral.

Despite loads of planning, I didn't get to see Speed Racer in theaters and have only seen clips of it since. But those clips are some of the most spectacular pieces of film I've ever seen. It should be the number one movie that electronics stores play to advertise their high-def screens. I STILL haven't gotten to see any car-fu scenes.

I haven't seen it either but I'm in the same boat - the few clips I've seen looked great, at least stylistically.

What is with all the hype over Rango? I haven't even cracked a smile during the previews. I can't believe how generic and unoriginal it looks. Who cares that the voice actors actually acted the scenes out with minimal props in the recording studio? What difference does it make in the film? Am I missing something?

I want to see it because I know my kids will like it.

Watching movies with little kids makes them significantly more enjoyable.

Little kids aren't the ones who've been posting about how awesome it looks on Facebook since the trailers started coming out, like I usually only see with a Pixar film(if even then). A group of like 8 of my age 21+ friends are going to see it tomorrow. I kept seeing it on "most anticipated films of '11" lists. It's not simply 5-year-olds interested in pretty colours and their parents happy to oblige them.

I dunno Houde, what are you trying for when you come into every. Single. Comic book movie thread here just to announce that you don't care about the picture and won't be seeing it?

Certainly more than I am here. I'll try and put this simpler: Does anybody have an answer as to why an extremely banal-looking kids' movie is, it seems, getting a ridiculous amount of attention from adults? Please no stupid insults if you don't.

And for the record, I'm not one of the members here who posts about how horrible the world is every time a new CGI Chipmunks/Yogi Bear movie comes out. Like at all, actually. E's point up there is usually right, but the kids' reactions aren't what's puzzling me.

I think Rango looks great and I will be seeing it this weekend with my family.

Just seems like that kidn of random just-for-fun-and-giggles kind of movie that most people are like, "Looks like a good time can be had." To me it does, anyways.

Comedy western + Johnny Depp + Pirates of the Caribbean director + ridiculously good computer animation by a company that has never done a full animated film before + weird and interesting method of production + great reviews + "healthy doses of Carlos Castaneda, Sergio Leone, Hunter S. Thompson, Chuck Jones and Chinatown."

That's why I'm seeing it.

In other news, Del Toro's At the Mountains of Madness is now officially dead. For ****'s sake.

All that sounds like it would be really good, but so far all the clips just look empty to me. The reviews having come in really strong is surprising and good, though.

I was just talking about this with some people at work the other day who were excited for it. I didn't even know it was in trouble.

I expect to hear news of Guillermo del Toro's suicide any day now.
