Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. discussion (spoilers)

Ok, partway through the episode it just all clicked. I could be wrong but...

Look at how Coulson keeps giving Skye chance after chance. How he trusts in her even though she keeps messing up. Look at him and how old he is. Look at Skye, her age and how the actress playing her has a multi racial Chinese American background. Now look at how her parents both have files with Shield, the way that Agent May is old enough to be her mother and fits the Asian background. How Coulson requested info on the parent and found that one of them is dead...Coulson in the events of The Avengers. See how Coulson and May share little intimate moments like at the end of last weeks episode. Let's say Coulson got May pregnant years ago during a brief fling...May gave up the baby because of her work in Shield...anyone else guessed this theory?

Haha, how did I not know about this? Also, she was born in 1991? Man I feel old.

I thought that file said 1989. Either way, I feel old too. :(

Do you think the agents of SHIELD will fight the Jotunheim creature in this next episode?

That would be cool but I think the CGI required might be a bit beyond the episode's budget. However it'd be cool if they mention that SHIELD captured a large alien monster and it was being held at a facility somewhere. Both ties up that plot thread and serves as an additional nod to the film.

I wish. The promo shows that it's about some lance that gets left behind and makes ward go crazy

Was that lance one of the Dark Elves weapons?

That's an interesting theory. You may be onto something.

No i mean in real life. The actress Chloe Bennet was born in 1991

Yeah, I would love to see that.

I don't know. The promo showed them looking at a book from maybe the middle ages that had a picture of it. So i'm not really sure how it ties in...

Chloe Bennet was born in 1992. She's only a couple of months older than me.

Yeah I remember the book, but it seems the lance or staff or whatever is what turns Ward all aggressive. I'm wondering if it's one of those laser-shooting staffs the Dark Elves were using.

Chloe Bennet was born in 1992. She's only a couple of months older than me.

Ahhhhh! Which is it! 1991 or 1992! Ahhhhhhh!

But yeah, I'm pretty sure the file page that was all redacted concerning Chloe's being found and dropped off at an orphanage was marked as 1989. I'll have to double check.

Right, but I'm saying the book had a picture of the lance in it. So was it left behind by the Dar Elves or has it been around since the Middle Ages.
The file where Skye was given to the orphanage is dated of April 23, 1989.

The actress Chloe Bennet is born April 18, 1992.

Oh, then IMDB is wrong. They list her birthday as April 18, 1991.

Ah ok, I didn't notice that.

Still, I'd think as a way of tying it to the movie better the lance would be left over from the battle with the Dark Elves as opposed to being from the Middle Ages. Course it very well could be, we'll see. Perhaps the book is referencing the Dark Elves from last time they were around, 5,000 years ago.

IMDB is always wrong...always.

Nevermind, as this preview clip shows, looks like the rod/staff is found in a tree. Does indeed seem to be Asgardian based on the runes.

I've just traduced what is written on the runic staff : INSPIRE RAGE (it's in english but with runes to replace latin alphabet).

Not very much, but always interesting.

You are a God of research.

Tonight's episode was decent. Liked the idea of an Asgardian living in hiding on Earth for a thousand years, plus Peter MacNicoll was awesome in the role. As for the thousand year mention, it makes sense that the character was a part of the Asgardian force that battled the Jotuns on Earth in 965 AD, and had the staff for use against the Jotuns, then skipped out to live on Earth.

Also some more interesting developments with the team. More light shed on Ward's past, a hint of what's up with May, and a huge twist at the end with Ward and May possibly getting busy. Also more development on Coulson's "resurrection".

Also like Coulson mentioning the Portland Philharmonic, a nice reference to his ex-girlfriend mentioned in Avengers.

Looks like next week's episode will shed light on what's haunting May from her past:

I've been following this thread and in particular the discussion of the hotness of Skye vs Simmons. I have been meaning to chime in with my opinion, which is that May (Ming-Na Wen) is clearly the hottest. So when Ward made the call last night to ditch Skye (who is annoying) and then go join May I cheered. Absolutely the correct choice. While May may not be the the text book prettiest of the bunch, she is by far the sexiest on the show. And def no slouch in the looks dept. Her look to Ward at the end when she left her room door open and her walk into the room with the bottle was very hot.

Anyway last nights ep was good. Possibly the best yet. It def got me amped up to go see Thor:TDW this weekend. Oh, and I still really hate the whole "Asgardians are aliens" bit. I don't like how it basically devolves them down to being the same as skrulls or any other run of the mill alien out there. But whatever I guess I'll just have to get past it.

May (Ming Na Wen) is a good looking woman, but better looking than Simmons? No, sir.

I actually like the Asgardians as aliens thing. There's a logic to it that prevents the MCU from having to address other religious figures as Gods. And it doesn't necessarily put them in the same boat as Skrulls/Chitauri, etc, since the Asgardians are one of, if not the most, advanced alien species around (essentially propelling them to the level of Gods through their technology/mastery of "magic", etc). I think that's a much better approach than the simplistic "yeah they're just Gods" approach in the comics.

I like the Earth X explanation best, where they are aliens created by the Celestials who have evolved to the point where their physical traits and characteristics have been determined by the beliefs of human beings.

They're more then aliens, they're advanced beings from a different dimension. The nine realms aren't just nine planets or solar systems, you can't get between them unless a door is opened, right?

The Chitauri and everything we're going to see in Guardians, and probably Thanos are aliens in Midgard's dimension, but the Frost Giants and the Asgardians, and the Dark Elves, etc are from different realms/dimensions.

This is just my understanding of it and I could be wrong, but I feel like it doesn't make sense otherwise.

Possibly, but in terms of needing the rainbow bridge to travel is due to the vast, light years long distances between Asgard, Earth, etc. it may be a different dimension thing, but it could also simply be due to those vast distances between solar systems.

Also, Asgard is obviously not a regular planet in a regular solar system, but a constructed realm using advanced Asgardian tech, etc.

Personally I don't mind either approach, but it is important to remember that the Dark Elves existed from before the Big Bang, and were attempting to revert the universe to that state by using the Convergence. That seems to indicate they're a part of this realm. The Nine Realms, I like to think, refer to ancient planets where the advanced civilizations originally rose from, but there are countless other alien species out there in the universe in modern times, as evidenced by the different alien races we'll see in Guardians of the Galaxy, and perhaps future Guardians films, as well as Thanos, the Chitauri, etc.

Okay, I just watched the episode and they definitely said they were aliens from outer space. So I guess that blows my theory out of the water.

Overall, it was an okay episode. But if that dude is an Asgardian, then why did he serve the ghost of a human sorcerer back in the 80s?

Not necessarily. That's just SHIELD's assumption/understanding. Since Jane Foster is the first human (that we know of) to visit Asgard, the theory is still flimsy. Could go either way, a different "planet" in our universe or a different dimension... I'm just playing Devil's advocate.

What better way to blend in on Earth than play second fiddle to Bill Murray's ectoplasmic entity capturer?

Ah but I didn't say better looking. I said sexier. There is a difference.

I will accept all these answers. I have sort of come around to thinking of them sort of like the New Gods. I think the thing that irked me the most is how much they threw around the word "alien" in the episode.
