52 Series Discussion (spoilers!)

I'm more interested in The Rock of Finality.

Yeah me too. I'm assuming since the Rock of Eternity is at the base of the beginning of time, the Rock of Finality is at the end of time.

I want to see Black Adam killing the four hoursemen one by one. Starting with Sobek.

Sobek doesnt look all that strong either i mean he to get Osiris in his human form to eat him.

Though i am pissed i really liked osiris and was hoping for an Black Adam family mini...or atleast Osiris re-joining the TT OYL

*sigh*

oh and maybe Sobek isn't Yurrd/Famine but that Gluttony took hold of him while on the rock. The Sins have been foregrounded a couple of times in 52 after all.

Its probably famine since he was alway hungry i guess...but then could he take Osiris when he was powered?

just noticed

Sobek means "52", if you take the place of each letter of his name in the English alphabet and add them all together

...yes i have alot of free time

I love the sheer coincidence in that Sobek =52. Sobek is a canon Capt Marvel character as well as being an egyptian mythical character.

(He was one of the four ancient spirits of evil that gave Mum-Ra his power as well)

Seriously....I think my geek is showing.

I do have a semi-serious question after reading posts over on the DC Boards.

Do you feel the on panel death of Osiris was effective storytelling, or do you feel that it was gratuitous violence and gore and could have been handled off panel?

I only know this because my ex-girlfriend was an Egyptian-centric witch. She used to go on and on and on about the Egyptian Pantheon and how modern media/entertainment got it wrong.

I was too busy thinking how cool being Cheetarah would be.

I saw that discussion too. I think it had to be showed. Sobek was starting to become the pet of the Marvel family, he was the poor cute crocodile that was rescued from Sivana and even thought many people knew that he was famine, at least for me he was a very loveable character. Those last panels just destroyed everything I thought about it. When I've read it I just got up from my chair and said "Mother****er!"
It wouldn't have the same impact if it were off-panel. You would know he was famine, but you wouldnt feel it. You wouldn't feel the betray off that poor cute crocodile.

I have to say - I don't like 52 all that much. I find it long and boring. I, for example, skip a lot of the plots (the Elongated Man/Fate storyline, the Question storyline) and one of the ones I skip is the Black Adam one. So, to be honest, I didn't really care that Kid Black Adam died, nor did I care that Sobek killed him.

However - I think the scene where Sobek goes from helpful pet to crippled child murderer is a very good scene. It IS powerful, shocking, and harsh. If it can have a positive effect on me (in that I go, "****! He ate him! Savage.") and I haven't even been reading the damn story, I think it's hardly gratuitous. I think it's the right choice. Off planel as we see Sobek munching as little blobs of blood pop out would've been too, "Oh - he just ate him". The savagery would've been lost and I think that was key.

But I could be wrong - it could be totally inappropriate considering what's come before. As I say, I've not been reading 52.

I actually know what you mean, Bass. There's a lot of dialogue and stuff happening...but at the same time, nothing important is happening. Although I did like the Question storyline. Except for the cancer part.

How come no one has adressed the break in the Dick Grayson/Barbara Gordon engagement? Um...not that I care about superhero romance...and I definetly don't read Spider-man Loves Mary Jane, because it's for girls...and...

I'm just going to stop writing now.

I was really hyped up for 52 when it started, mainly because it was going to get me into the DC Universe. After a while, I got bored with it. The plots weren't advancing much and I didn't care after a while. However, lately it's been getting better and better, and hopefully it'll stay good until it's conclusion... I'm not sure about Countdown though. :(
