So, now that its been a few days and things have started to sunk in, I think I understand what's going on.

You know how in Ultimates 1 and 2, the first arc of each had an Ultimate member as the antagonist? Hulk in Volume 1 and Thor in Volume 2?

I think Scarlet Witch is the main antagonist here. And all of the wacky changes (Thor's accent, Valkyerie's powers, Wasp's leadership, Hawkeye's insanity, and the appearance of Venom and the Brotherhood as the villains), are due to her powers. This is touched upon in. . .*cringes* Ultimate Power when she discusses the possibility that the original Squadron Supreme's appearance may be due to her. And considering Loeb wrote both that and Ultimates 3 and they tie together, all leading to Ultimatum, it seems logical.

Maybe I'm just trying to rationalize it all, but there has to be an explanation for all of this and that's the only thing that I can think of that would make this make any sense.

Didn't Marvel do a story a little while ago where the Scarlet Witch went crazy and changed a bunch of stuff? Or am I thinking of something else....?

Not in the Ultimate Universe. :wink:

The other things that I think point to this are:

1)Venom's "she". There are, what, three women on the Ultimates? Wasp, Valkyrie and Scarlet Witch. Which means, likely, Venom was looking for one of them.
2) Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are noticebly absent in the fight against Venom. Venom doesn't seem to react to Valkyrie or Wasp in any specific way, so I think it narrows it down to Wanda.
3)Wanda is shot and "killed" at the end of the issue. Why Wanda?

It all seems to be pointing to the Scarlet Witch.

Finally got round to reading #1.
Ultimates 1 - Awesome Epic Summer Blockbuster
Ultimates 2 - Awesome Summer Blockbuster with a dash of intrigue and politics.
Ultimates 3 - The Comic Book equivalent of watching House Of The Dead, Batman and Robin and Catwoman. At once. On loop. Then reading UIM.

Seriously, can someone send Loeb back to Heroes where he can do some good, and get Millar back over? Because I am starting to resent Loeb for ruining one of my favourite books.

Your idea does fit and make some sense but... it's not effectively set up. Loki in ULTIMATES 2 shifting things, making them odder, and it was apparent and ominous without Loki appearing for four issues.

If Loeb is re-doing it, but this time with Scarlet Witch - he's not doing it as well.

Also - yes, Hitllar's runs did have them fighting an Ultimates member, but I doubt Loeb will continue the trend. :?

they're running out of ideas. They're bringing in onslaught too? Did I hear right about UXM? That's just stupid. The UU's theme seems to be running closer and closer to 616 and pretty soon, we'll have marvels' own crisis on infinite earths. It's just a matter of time.

I agree. Although, I'm not sure if that's exactly what he's doing. It seems more subtle than that. Her powers seem to be limited to what's going on around her.

Well, we have established that Loeb is less subtle then Millar. Then again, though, I may be completely wrong. I just find it really odd that Venom and the Brotherhood are being used as villains and all of these changes have happened.

I'm just giving him the benefit of the doubt. Ultimates 3 is Scarlet Witch, Ultimates 4 is a new villain, Absorbing Man. But, you may be right.

Eh, I disagree about Onslaught being stupid. If he's exactly the same or similar to his 616 counterpart, then yeah, it's really stupid. But, in this case, I'm going to trust Kirkman. I've enjoyed UXM as of late, so hopefully, that'll continue.

As for the UU and 616 running rather close, that's what I'm afraid Ultimate Origin and Ultimatum are going to establish: that the UU began and ends with 616. And then, I'll be furious. But, until then, I'll keep reading.

Besides, even though I'm in the minority, I do like Mad's art. His storytelling ability sucks, but the art is pretty.

Y'know - maybe it'll be Hawkeye. If he actually does turn into Ultimate Bullseye, him being the villain would make sense.

I'm gonna read other stuff there - it's such a ****ing hysterical send-up, I'm now looking forward to ULTIMATES 3 #2 because of these guys.

Also - I woke up this morning and a thought popped into my head: anyone who's read the hardcover to THE ULTIMATES will have read Joss Whedon's intro.

So now imagine if THE ULTIMATES 3 was written by Joss Whedon.

You know it would've ****ing worked.

I totally agree, but just to clarify: if you go to the latest pages for the Ultimates 3 parody, it says that it's not done by Mighty God King, who did the Civil War parodies.

I can't be bothered to read the previous 15 pages of comments. I got up to page 3 and just quit.




I just read it.

I didn't hate it.

The art wasn't bad...but it wasn't great. I think it may be due to the inking/coloring. It was all just too blurry.


It's too early to call it bad or dismiss it. It's just a jarring transition to go from Millar to Loeb.
