Ultimate Spiderman #102 discussion (Spoilers)

To the people who have been discussing Peter's maturity/growth... I'm kind of nervous about that, because the next arc is Ultimate Knights. Ultimate DD and Moon Knight hate him, don't they? I have a nasty suspicion that the next arc might be more of Peter getting the crap beaten out of him or just being obnoxious, like Warriors or the second annual. This arc is about change and he should totally grow up and play a different role in the Ultimate Knights arc than he did in the "crime drama" type storylines before. Unfortunately, I have a sneaking suspicion that the person who told me "Get ready to drop the book" is right, and he's not going to change. :(

I read the online preview for the Punisher book. Remember the scene with Stiltman? Sometimes, I feel like Daredevil is Punisher and Spider-Man is Stiltman. Please, Bendis, let Peter grow up.
I think he is going to change. In Annual 2, DD treated Peter differently than in the Super Special. Peter IS growing up, and hopefully he can display it. I DON'T want to see Ultimate Knights become another Kitty/Spidey adventure.
It needs to be Spider-man with the other "solo", street level heroes. I have no douby Bendis can do it, I'm hoping it will have lots of Peter Parker, less Spider-man. You don't need 5 issues to tell a fight! ( I'm assuming 5 since Bags in gone after 110 )

I imagine it will not be just a fight regardless of the amount of issues.

Things I liked

-Ultimate Spider-Woman (best part)
-Ultimate Kaine
-Naked MJ

Things I dislike

-Ultimate Scorpion
-Ulltimate Tarantula (WTF! A werewolf/vampire thiing with six arms!?)
-Fury working with Doc Ock!?

He's got a double sized finale issue (#104), which I suspect will be mostly fight. Next issue will probably be mostly exposition of the plot. Then there's an epilogue issue for any further loose ends. (Mostly Pete's lovelife and Aunt May's heart attack by the sound of it.)

Yah, but you know issue #103 will be reflecting back on how Doc. Ock got involved, How Peter's dad links to all of this, and probably find a way to cure MJ.

Well, the Oz drug has been broken down... They'll most likely have a cure for MJ. Since the Oz is essentially a drug with a side-effect, I'm not as against MJ becoming a Goblin as I was at first. It'll work out fine... Perhaps Cassandra Webb will come in and erase her memory... As well as Peter's. Wouldn't that be typical Bendis? House of M, anyone?

There will be a lot of 'splaining to do.

If I were Peter, I'd never suit up as Spider-Man again. Period. End of sentence. He was trying to do a good and righteous thing, but bad men took his dream and manipulated it into something different, robbing him of his youth and everything. Peter will need a strong reminder of what it is to be Spider-Man... Hopefully, Bendis acknowledges that... Because, so far, Peter hasn't reacted as he should. I mean - a girl clone of himself and all he does is start yelling? Please...

Also, Fury is in way over his head. From the looks of it, he should lose his job... Plain and simple. He's crossing too many boundaries here to even begin to justify what's going on. If he's got any hand behind the cloning, he should definitely be replaced by someone... We all know this won't happen, howeverm because Fury is not just a central character to Ultimate Spider-Man, he's also central to the rest of the titles in the UU. Shame.

Where Ock and Peter's father fit into this is going to be something. I have a feeling, now, that Richard isn't actually his real father. I don't know.

Also, Gwen is on the top of my list. So far, Bendis has not indicated a specific reason to bring her back other than to **** with the reader and Pete. Not a big fan of a writer doing that, but I'm reserving my actual opiion until everything is explained.

Hopefully, we won't find out that Peter and Ock are actually related...

What's that supposed to mean? That everything converted back to normal after HoM? Is that it? Because I think we have a few hundred mutants without powers, some good spin-off mini series, and some other MU ramifications such as Civil War. So if Bendis knows how to do anything it's leaving good loose ends that mean something.

Look at what you made me do ...

So Iceman losing his powers lasted for how long? What I'm saying is there are fractures to every big "status quo change".

Bad comparison because Iceman never lost his powers. They used HoM to take him out of the secondary stage mutation so he could control his powers again.

MWF has the point in this one.

There was a guy at my comic shop obsessing over this issue saying that Tarantula was ingenius and that no one would have ever thought of that.

Because there's never been a guy called the Tarantula who's morphed into a spider.

There's never been, say, a "doppelganger" of some sort that was spider-like.

There's never been "what if" discussion about how Spider-Man might have become more spider-like.

And Spider-Man has certainly never morphed into a giant arachnid-like creature, and certainly not done it like five times in the past year.

Right.

I guessed it. He had six arms, he obviously looked freakish.

Yeah, I actually predicted that. No, really! When I turned to the page where we first see his face, I was like "Oh, yeah! I was right! Oh, crap, I never told anyone so I don't have bragging rights!"

Yeah, not like me when I totally called that drew was spidergirl-peter clone. 8)

Hey I totally called Gwen as Carnage and not a clone way back when we were all discussing she as a Clone. Everyone thought my idea was crap back then too....:?

lol..well, with your remarkable ability to accurately guess the future, what do you see coming next issue? With Kitty and Fury and Ock etc.
Call me crazy, but I can't help thinking that's Richard in the tentacles. THAT would give Peter's reaction.
