The Pixar Thread

While I disagree with you, it was easily the best thing Dreamworks has done.

That was a nice way of putting it. I was going to set him on fire and attack him with a baseball bat.

(also: while Kung Fu Panda might have been well constructed, and well done, there is NOTHING about the concept that is original, while Wall-E is an exceptionally original concept, which even if you don't think it was properly executed, I don't think you can deny)

Also: I was just about to post that same picture. DAMN YOU PROJECTX2!!!!

Last night I watched cars again. I have changed my opinion. Cars is now my favorite of the Pixar films. It's better than my previous favorite (the toy story films)

Two robots/appliances falling in love.

Doing things for yourself in real life is more important than sitting around watching TV.

Truly the most original movie of our time, if you don't count all those Ray Bradbury stories which are the exact same thing but more complex and subtle and wide.

Even though we've had this argument you've got me backwards. Wall-E was very well-executed. It's the core concept I thought needed so much more. It's so safe and well-worn and its solution required so little effort and over-simplified so much, which I've usually admired Pixar for not doing. It would be like if Toy Story 2 ended with Andy saying "You know what? I resolve never to grow up and to just play with my toys forever", followed by a credits montage of him just doing so. So I just still can't understand why people make such a big deal about it.

In terms of that comic up there, you could pretty much do the same thing with the Pixar guys saying "Okay, there are a bunch of self-centered hotshots who get taken down a peg, and they're toys and monsters and stuff" while the Dreamworks guys give super-detailed descriptions of Ogres going on bridal-tithe based adventures for corrupt polititians and obese noodle-merchants having existentialist soul-journeys and learning the meaning of life.

I just wanted to press your buttons :p

I think we're just dead opposites on the Wall-E issue and could argue twice the length of this thread.

I went to a lot of trouble to make that REVEL IN IT.

And yes Pixar is super-awesome, and that is a very very sad story.

They're rereleasing the first two Toy Starys in theaters.

IN 3-D!
