The All About Manga Thread

So Eyeshield 21 finished recently, and I just finished reading Rave Master. So here are a few quick thoughts on each.

Eyeshield 21: I love this series, it's a classic underdog football story with great characters. However, the final arc of the high school world cup was somewhat underwhelming. A bunch of international teams were introduced only for most off them to be beaten off panel, which was somewhat annoying, but I thought that the game against the American all stars would make up for it. Well it did, and it didn't. At first I couldn't figure it out, the Americans had several powerhouses/rivals and got an early lead thereby setting up proper suspense, so what kept me from enjoying it? I finally figured out it was because the game was being played by the Japanese all stars, and not the Devil Bats, meaning they weren't really underdogs anymore and that killed most of the suspense. Also, it really annoyed me how most of the side characters were ignored by the ending (Taki, the Huh!? Brothers, Manabu, etc.) in favor of characters who had seen relatively less screen time. Overall though, I'd still rate the whole book A- with the last arc being a B-.

Rave Master: This book seemed to have the opposite problem, it started off average but got pretty awesome thanks to solid art and storytelling with several unexpected twists that kept the story fresh, and excellently done fight scenes. I don't want to spoil the ending but I thought it was good. This book deserves its solid A.

Man these coincidences always weirds me out. I've always liked Rave Master mainly because I came up with a similar idea before I saw it and it was cool seeing some things I thought of on tv. Then it went away and recently SciFi channel had been showing it. I was curious how it end so I tried to look up the ending. Turns out the anime was canceled before the ending so I looked up the manga and read the last few chapters and it was pretty good and even the ending had similarities to what I thought up.

Chapters like the one this week are the reason I still have faith in Bleach.

I luuuuuuuurve Rave Master, but I need to catch up on Eyeshield.

Huh, twilight zone.

How was it good?

The bad guys got rejuvenated, the good guys got allies.

It's just going to be a rehash of the fights from before.

Bleach is Dragonball Z with swords and souls.

I totally saw the "wizards live on Mars" reveal in Mahou Sensei Negima coming, but who cares! This can only mean Chao's coming back! Martian rock!
