The All About Comics Thread 5: Comic Books Ate My Paycheck

While I dismay at the right-wingers who care, I also can't fathom why a Superman comic would go to an area where his citizenry becomes a political issue.

I didn't even know Superman was an American citizen, Clark Kent is but does it really matter what country his alternate persona belongs to? Could he have gotten a passport as Superman before?

I never gave it any thought. And neither should the writer. It's almost as inappropriate as Ma and Pa Kent talking about their favourite sexual position.

Afrodisiac is the Black Dynamite of comics and you all need to read it.

In other news, this is my new favourite comic:

Gaiman was paid $45,000 last May to speak at a library in Minnesota, and for whatever reason, the House Majority leader wanted him to give the money back. The money that Gaiman gave to charity (minus agent fees). He claims Gaiman somehow "stole the money."

Read the story here. First few paragraphs.

So how'd everyone make out for the 10th Free Comic Book Day?

I'm so disappointed I couldn't take my son.

It's also looking like I can't take him to Motor City Comic Con this weekend.

Well, sorry about FCBD, guys.

On a lighter note, anyone who has ever read a comic in their lives should track down the Axe Cop mini and the trade if they don't already follow it online. It's like Nextwave good.

Seconded. And I've only read a handful of "issues".

Bass, in particular, should be reading this because it would be his favorite comic of all time.

I just read Godland #25-30. I honestly don't know how I feel about this book. Reading it is exhausting at times, and I never feel like the stories flow well at all. But I appreciate the big concepts and ideas and seeing if/how they will tie together and turn out.

I started Torso by Brian Bendis. As much as I generally don't like the guy I really like how he writes crime and crime-ish stories. But I could not get into Torso at all. I gave up partway into chapter 2.
