The All About Comics Thread 4: Gemini Loves Crappy Variant Covers

I think Frank Quitely's problem is that there are a lot of people who would always rather see something more traditional over something really distinctive, particularly in superhero comics.

Agreed, though I'd much rather look at art that is interesting like Quitely's rather than some generic Jim Lee-esque art.

:sure: Art Snobs.

So, I went in to my LCS today to pick up Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk#6. It is one of the last issue pulls I have because I buy trades now. I was looking around the store and that's when I saw it.

Miracleman #15.

The Holy Grail.

My one and only goal for Wizard World Chicago this year was to get Miracleman #15-16, and any other issues I didn't have. But mainly #15. And there it was.

So...he gave me an awesome deal and I got it.

Thankfully I didn't orgasm all over it. But I think I almost did.

Did you flip out when you saw it or did you keep your wits about you?

This reminds me. I was at my lcs when I found out I have two wolverine issues that are valued at 200 bucks each. One was with wolverine with a canadian flag on his face. The other one was the daken(his son) debut. According to the lcs guy that overheard me, I was wrong about the first issue. Turns out it was only available at some conference round table meeting of some sort. I told him I had it and he just says, "I doubt it, it was an extremely rare issue. Only 200 were printed." Like it mattered, the comic sucked anyway. what a d-bag.

Marvel is releasing Deadpool #900 this september, as a bit of a stick at DC with Action Comics hitting that milestone sometime soon. Also making fun of themselves for all the #600's and #500's this year.

Kyle Baker will be doing the art here's a couple preview images. weird but kinda cool that they're drawing Deadpool into actual photo's with comicy filters over them, kinda gives it a Frisky Dingo feel

I know it's crazy

the guy is getting a second solo-in-continuity ongoing fercrissakes

think about that for a sec

I can only think of Wolverine and Maybe Hulk that can boast the same thing.

He's in the future with X-Force and Cable, fighting against The Punisher with Daredevil and Spider-Man, fighting BullsHawkeye and Osbourne, teaming with his zombie dopplegangerhead.

Oh I thought there was Sensational and Amazing, however in the past he's had up to three. Well you could always count Marvel Adventures or Ultimate.

That's not really very funny at all... :?

Deadpool (and his fans) embody everything that is wrong with comic book readers.

No holier than thou comic book snobs who say things like that embody everything that is wrong with comic book readers.

If snobbery is defined as thinking that Deadpool is the bottom-of-the-barrel, lowest rung stupidity pandering to the lowest common denominator then I guess that yes, I am a comic book snob.

Really? Because I think that the idea of a Mainstream, major publisher book where the main character not only acknowledges but revels in how completely insane and ludicrous everything is is absolutely hilarious.

And he knows he's a comic book character.

Its comedy gold man.

No I meant people who make statements like ...

Are snobs who need to get over themselves

(I'm totally poking the bear here, and I don't have the back-bone to back it up)
