The All About Comics Thread 4: Gemini Loves Crappy Variant Covers

Re: The All About Comics Thread 4: Gemini Is Reading Watchmen?!

There is no status quo.

For something to be status quo, there has to be an assumption of some kind of stability, but there isn;t.

Re: The All About Comics Thread 4: Gemini Is Reading Watchmen?!

First of all, I honestly thought Steve Ditko died a while ago. I'm really glad he's still alive.

Wasn't Ditko the biggest supporter of bringing back Hal Jordan and Barry Allen?

I think this is in keeping with what he was saying.

I think what Ditko means is that the flaw in the industry and people like Quesada is that they don't look at these characters as people, but as toys to be broken, status quos to be upset. Killing off Barry Allen and exiling Hal Jordan weren't moves of character development, but toy-breaking. What happens next? We get a new Flash and Green Lantern who have to learn everything all over again and nothing changes. It's the same with One More Day. If they looked at Peter more as a person rather than something to be smashed, we might see the status quo actually change as he deals with different problems and grows up.

Basically, I think his point is that he'd rather have the heroes themselves act as forces of nature, shaping the world around them, than the (gimmicky, retarded)events around them forcing them to react.

Re: The All About Comics Thread 4: Gemini Is Reading Watchmen?!

So Marvel is releasing Wolverine #73 before #72 because of the Wolverine movie coming out and they think it'll help them get sales on the book.

So my comic shop e-mails me about this and this is what the guy thinks about it:

"This is done because Marvel is really stupid and believes that readers care more about issue #73 from writers Jason Aaron & Daniel Way and artists Adam Kubert & Tommy Lee Edwards which features the start of two two-part stories focusing on the character, then they care about an exciting Mark Millar storyline that they have been following breathlessly for the last few issues. Both stories will be concluded in the pages of Wolverine #74 , scheduled to land in stores on May 27. Once more, Marvel has provided evidence that they have no idea what their readers want. "

:p

So...Legion of Three Worlds was pretty badass.

Re: The All About Comics Thread 4: Gemini Is Reading Watchmen?!

is that the one by Geoff Johns that explains how Bart Allen comes back to life and is young again?

Him and
Superboy
.

I found it quite predictable.

I'll agree that the foreshadowing was a little too heavy, but I still thought it was well executed.

HAPPY FREE COMICS DAY!

I got Atomic Robo, Blackest Night, Owly, Avengers, and I picked up Alterna-Zombies, because they are Alterna-Zombies.

I also got the first trades of Exterminators and The Sword, as my store was having a sale to celebrate the day.

I am excited.

That new Sherlock Holmes comic from Dynamite was pretty good.

I'm looking forward to Dracula by the same writers and Buck Rogers.

I recently found out that a second comic shop had opened in my area, so I stopped at both of them and picked up five titles for myself, and a couple for friends. New Avengers, Owly, and Star Wars for me (there are never enough Kit Fisto stories!), and the Cars comic for my dad (Cars is one of his favorite movies, so he might actually read this).

Plus two Hellboy:Animated trades for the library. I'll have to read them over to see if they can go in the Children's collection vs. the Young Adult section. (Reading comic books for work. Yeah, my job is sooooo tough.... )

The Atomic Robo vs Dr. Dinosaur was hilarious.

Oops, this is the worst thing ever:

Eminem/Punisher.

The Punisher meets Eminem, who is being hunted by Barracuda, who grew up with Eminem(???) and rap battled him back in the day(???), who has now been hired by the faux-PMRC to off Eminem.

Okay.

"Sorry I killed your homies, Marshall."
