Re: The All About Comics Thread 4: Gemini Is Reading Watchmen?!

Is anyone else reading Secret Six?

Gail Simone and Nicola Scott kick *** together.

I re-read Spider-Man Blue yesterday and really liked it. It's hard to believe this is the same guy that wrote Ultimates 3, even though some of the same speech patterns are there.

I was just catching up on it last night, it is kick ***.

Bane: "Scandal, you may have one ice cream of your choice."

Scandal: "What the hell are you talking about?"

Bane: "Only one."

Man, The Daily Planet must not pay much if Lois had to get that second job. Or maybe she just likes it.

Today me & lyn went our local comic-book store (Or we were out on the same road and Mole turned in to a kid with a toy store. :please: "please can we go in please." Hush to those that judge me.

Ok I wanted :

Ultimates V1 part 2 , all of 2 and 3
Absolute Sandman V1
Ultimate Spider-man tps (after clone saga and on)
Superman: Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?

I instead got :

  • Superman: Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?
  • Ghostbusters "The Other Side"
  • Wolverine Origin all parts

Ironically I have already downloaded Wolverine Origin but I saw in the shop and thought "Ok i'll have that" at got it so downloaded version = deleted from my pc.

So comics I own but still have not read :

  • Superman: Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?
  • Ghostbusters "The Other Side"
  • Wolverine Origin all parts
  • All of Venom Dark Origin (though I read first issue)
  • Superman Last Son of Earth
  • Lex Luthor Man of Steel
  • Superman The darkside
and the following batman comics
  • Dark Victory
  • Arkham Asylum
  • Arkham Asylum - Living Hell
  • Joker Devil`s Advocate
  • Batman and Joker switch
  • The long Halloween
  • Dark Joker the wild
  • Shadows of the bat "leaves of grass" arc
  • I Joker
  • Death Mask

 Too many yet I keep adding to it but that's because everytime I go to read them I get caught in another series e.g My supergirl comics I buy or recently Astonishing X-men I downloaded. It's getting silly how many I have but don't read.

Heh, I'm reading Morrison's Marvel Boy and one of the alternate universes his ship traveled through was the Wildstorm Universe. That is neat.

Morrison seems to do this a lot. Whenever he shows an alternate universe, it's normally a reference to whatever's going on at the opposite publisher at the time (like how we saw a glimpse of the Marvel Universe engaged in Civil War/Secret Invasion in the Superman Beyond issues).

I remember kirkman did something neat like that with one of his invincible arcs. Invincible was going through like Walking dead 'verse and Y the last man 'verse. twas jolly

I think these are the best kinds of crossovers/tie ins. The ones that are implied but don't interrupt anything.

I just read Teen Titans Year One by Amy Wolfram and Karl Kerschl. It was wonderfully fun. It's got a similar tone/style to Jeff Smith's Monster Society of Evil and those other "kid" comics put out by DC. Very funny and very cute. I think Bass would like it.

I just read Joe Kelly's "I Kill Giants" from Image. It was a great read.

Ex Machina #40 is my favourite issue of 2008. It's great. It's about Mitchell Hundred hiring comic writers and artists to do a graphic novel about him. For most of the issue, we follow Brian K. Vaughan and Tony Harris as they are interviewed. We get references to Hitch, Bendis, Meltzer, Morrison... and it's neat.

But the last two pages are the best. Seriously. If you're even a general fan of BKV, pick up this issue, it's accessible and it's superb.

Did anybody ever read this? I still think the last two pages are hilarious.
