Star Wars - Timeline (New Canon)

**** this game. I played for two hours. Closed the app and then reopened it and all my progress was gone.

That sounds like a problem with your device, not the game. Also, pretty sure there's an option to create an account or link it to Facebook or something specifically so in case that does happen, you can recover your game.

The more you know...

Not worth it. It just a Clash of Clans clone anyway.

Updated for the four new Clone Wars unfinished/story reel episodes posted on StarWars.com. While they're a rough CGI without the finishing and detail added, and since I know wyo will bring it up, they are official canon so added them to the timeline. I haven't watched them yet but apparently they address the lingering Ahsoka plot thread. Not sure how, though.

Also added the upcoming Asajj Ventress novel SW - Dark Disciple, which comes out next summer and whose title was just announced. Its based on unused Clone Wars scripts (but geared towards adults), and will likely help close out some plotlines from the show.

Apparently there are plans to adapt the various ideas or scripts done for Clone Wars in various forms of media (comics, novels, perhaps CGI web series) over the next few years, so it looks like they'll be filling in the era of just after the Clone Wars TV show's end, as well as the era between Ep IV - ANH and Ep V - ESB until Ep VII is released at the end of next year (at which point I'm sure most media will be serving as interquels between Ep VI - RotJ and Ep VII.

Can you explain to me why Commander is canon? I've been playing it for the past eight hours. There's no story, it's choose your own path, and has limited availability events. I can't Imagine this is canon.

There is a story, it's just also limited. It's a mobile game so not sure what you're expecting. The storyline goes as such: you're a mercenary working with your friend Saponza and are faced with either joining the Empire or Rebellion. You set up a base on Tatooine and the either attack random Empire or Rebellion bases (depending on which side you choose) and defend your base from attacks from the opposing side). It's basic, but there is a storyline.

It's canon, officially. You don't have to play it, it's not like it's an intrinsic element of the overall canon.

I've played mobile games that have massive stories.

It's not officially canon though. There has been zero confirmation on that.

Like what?

It's not officially canon though. There has been zero confirmation on that.

Except Lucasfilm announcing that everything released is now canon, with the exception of the last bits of the Dark Horse comics.

Like I said, I'm relying on the very knowledgable fans at both Wookiepedia, TheForce.net boards, and the official statement that ALL the new stuff is now canon.

You can think what you want.

Is this right?

Most of those are just kid storybook adaptations of Rebels episodes, aimed at young readers.

The only stuff on that list that offer original stories (as opposed to adaptations of Rebels episodes) are:

Tarkin (novel)
Servant of the Empire (young adult 4 novel series)
Star Wars (Marvel comic ongoing series)
Star Wars - Darth Vader (Marvel comic ongoing series)
Star Wars - Princess Leia (Marvel comic 5-issue mini-series)
Heir to the Jedi (novel)
Untitled Graphic Novel (as far as I know it's an original story, but it may be an adaptation)
Dark Disciple (novel focusing on Asajj Ventress, based on unproduced Clone Wars scripts)
Battlefront (video game, though it'll likely just retell battles from the films)

The Secret Jedi - Adventures of Kanan Jarrus is also canon, though I think it takes the form of a journal type thing and probably recounts adventures from Rebels and before the series took place.

There's also another mobile game coming out called Star Wars - Galactic Defense, which is just a tower defense game, though it too will likely be canon.

Pretty sure that covers all of it. But most of those books like Inquisitor's Trap, Beware the Inquisitor, Ezra's Duel with Danger are all adaptations of Rebels episodes or the four shorts that were released (think Chopper Saves the Day is based on one of those). Once they're released that'll be verified on Wookiepedia, but based on descriptions/summaries and cover photos reading (based on a Star Wars - Rebels episode), combined with the fact they're picture books that'll lift stills directly from the episodes, I doubt any of those are original stories.

So this is right then? I'm just trying to make sure I have everything listed.

So this is right then? I'm just trying to make sure I have everything listed.

Pretty sure the Rebels Story and Activity book won't feature anything new to the canon. I may be wrong but I think it's just a kids' book, sort of like a coloring book with mazes and stuff. If it has any stories in it (which by its name implies as such) it's probably simplistic adaptations of the episodes or shorts.

But yeah, everything else is confirmed as canon (not sure about the untitled graphic novel, but it's probably original material, possibly based on unused scripts from Clone Wars since there's the big new push to adapt all of those in comics and novels).

The activity book is being advertised with a new story

Updated for the new short story in Star Wars Insider #153 "Rebels United", added a tentative placement for Star Wars - Galactic Defense (once its released it'll likely have to be split up by level since it spans from the Prequel era to the Original Trilogy era), and positioned the SW-Clone Wars Story Reels between Seasons 5 and 6 of The Clone Wars, since Anakin references Ahsoka and it would indicate her leaving the Jedi Order happened only recently (and release order means very little anyway regarding chronology, as is evidenced by the episodes chronologically occurring very differently to their release/airing order).

Also, watched the Star Wars - Rebels Pilot tonight.

It wasn't bad. Much better than I expected.

It wasn't great, either, but shows promise, and was infinitely better than how The Clone Wars started out.

The dialogue was a bit shaky in places, but the episode as a whole worked. I was also worried that it would be too "tame" since it's aimed at kids. I was pleased that it wasn't. Stormtroopers get shot and blown up plenty, so at least there's an element of visceral violence us Americans so crave. ;)

Anyway, it's not great, but certainly better than I thought it would be. It had an element of Firefly to it (a small, ragtag crew working together against an overwhelmingly large empire) that I found endearing.

I was also pleased at what I originally took as a continuity gaffe. The trailers showed Obi-Wan speaking through a hologram. At first I was like WTF? If this takes place only five years before ANH, how does Obi-Wan look the same age as he does during The Clone Wars?

Well, this answered that. The hologram was actually a message contained in a Holocron, and was a warning message Obi-Wan had sent out around the time just after Episode III. Thus, the older Obi-Wan from ANH still fits. Hopefully the characters from Rebels may even run into older Obi-Wan at some point.

But yeah. Not great, but it shows promise. And with Greg Weismann (Gargoyles, Young Justice) and Dave Filoni (SW-The Clone Wars) at the helm, that's reassuring.

I didn't expect Tarkin to show up in The Clone Wars. The novel existing makes more sense now. What an odd choice of characters they choose to flesh out.

Not when you consider the bigger picture. For one, the novel was likely almost done or completely done being written before Disney/Lucasfilm made the announcement of the new continuity several months back. Obviously the Tarkin novel was intended as part of the old continuity, and since (as far as I know) no previous novels had focused on him, and he's a fan favorite character, it made sense in that regard.

There's also an element of the new continuity that works for the novel. It's also likely due to the fact that Tarkin will play a role in the Rebels series. Pretty sure he was mentioned in the Pilot movie episode, and I'm sure he'll appear eventually, likely overseeing plans and construction of the first Death Star. My theory is that the Rebels characters probably play a role in getting the Death Star plans to the Alliance to set up the events of ANH, towards the show's end.
